Chapter 1

Chapter One: The New Girl

Luna Everly had never felt more out of place.

The moment she stepped through the huge iron gates of Ravenshire Academy, she knew she didn't belong. The buildings were tall and beautiful, with big glass windows that made the school look more like an old castle than a place for students. Everywhere she looked, there were rich, confident people, dressed in perfect uniforms, walking like they owned the world.

She clutched the strap of her bag, her heart beating fast. Yesterday, she was in a small town where life was simple. Now, she was here, surrounded by strangers who would probably never understand her.

She took a deep breath and started walking. One step at a time.

"Move."

A cold voice cut through the air. Before Luna could react, someone brushed past her, almost knocking her over.

She turned and froze.

A boy—tall, sharp-featured, and completely uninterested in her presence—stood there, adjusting the sleeve of his expensive-looking uniform. His black hair was perfectly styled, and his dark brown eyes were colder than the London air.

He didn't look angry. He didn't even seem to care. It was like she was invisible.

"You should watch where you're going," he said, his voice calm but distant. Then, without another word, he walked away, disappearing into the crowd.

Luna let out a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. Who was that?

"Don't take it personally," another voice said—this one lighter, friendlier.

She turned again and met a pair of warm brown eyes filled with amusement. The boy in front of her had chestnut-brown hair and an easy smile. He looked like the kind of person who made friends everywhere he went.

"The fact that he even spoke to you is a miracle," the boy said, laughing. "He usually just ignores people."

Luna frowned. Who was 'he'?

Seeing her confusion, the boy smirked. "That was Cassius Montgomery. My twin brother."

Luna blinked. Twin? They didn't look alike at all.

The boy held out his hand. "I'm Theodore Montgomery. But you can call me Theo."

Hesitating for a second, Luna took his hand. His grip was warm, steady, the opposite of Cassius's coldness.

"Luna Everly," she said quietly.

Theo's smile softened. "Nice to meet you, Luna. Welcome to Ravenshire. You're in for quite the ride."

Luna wasn't sure what he meant. But for some reason, she believed him.
