Introduction
Two 55-year-old men were meeting in a private room at a restaurant, accompanied by their secretaries. One of them was already in the private room waiting when the other man appeared. They greeted each other cordially and the one who arrived first asked the other.
“And your wife? Isn’t she coming with you?”
“Coming here? She has no business here. She’s doing her duty which is taking care of the house.”
“Really?” the first man asked him with a look of disbelief.
“Of course not! Hahahah! She told me she wasn’t going to come because she thinks we’re going to make a fool of ourselves and refuses to participate in this farce of ours. And that we’d better mind our own business. Anyway, what about your wife?”
“Well, she told me more or less the same thing. She said that we’re crazy and that we’re fools for believing that something like this could work. Do you think we’re wrong?”
“Not at all. They’re exaggerating. These children of ours need someone to wake them up and unfortunately it falls to us to do that. But let’s have dinner first, I’m hungry, and then we’ll talk about all this. Gentlemen, please go have dinner too. We’ll call you when we need to” the second man said while looking at the two secretaries who had remained standing. The first man agreed to these words, so the two secretaries said goodbye with a nod and went to the main room to enjoy their dinner.
The two men, concerned parents, ate, drank and laughed throughout the evening, remembering past anecdotes that they had experienced together and separately.
They had not seen each other in quite a few years, despite knowing about each other through the news and mutual friends. They had been friends in their university days, but life, business and families had taken them in different directions.
It was not until a couple of weeks ago that they met again at an event thanks to a mutual acquaintance. After the surprise and the initial greetings, hug included, they began to talk and catch up on how their lives had been in the last years. They both knew that each other had children, two each, what a coincidence! But what neither of them knew was that all of them were single, and unfortunately for the distant future of the family business, they were all gay. “But there is adoption”, the first was trying to console the second. “True, but neither of them seems to have the slightest intention of meeting anyone to get married or formalize any kind of relationship, which is quite desperate”. “Do they use work as an excuse? Do they keep saying that they have a lot on work to do and because of that, they don’t have any free time to socialize? Because this is the excuse my boys have been giving me for a long time now”. “Well yes, they tell me the same thing over and over… I can tell that our children are quite similar... now that I think about it… how old did you say they are?”
Suddenly those two men came up with what could be the best idea, the most brilliant idea to solve all the concerns that they had about their children.
“Well, what do you think about these pairings? I think they are the most suitable, considering their personality and their way of being.”
“And if they are not?”
“That won’t be our concern. Let them prove that they know how to solve problems.”
“And as for… I mean, this thing about… You know… Intimate relationships between boys…”
“Oh, that! Well, I have no idea, but I don’t think it is relevant, right? Or is it? Well, it doesn’t matter. What we want is for them to prove to us that they are responsible, that they take the future of their families seriously, that they are capable of making the necessary sacrifices, and they are also capable of having the courage to face adverse situations. If they prove that they can get out of this mess without leaving aside the well-being and economic future of the family, I don’t care about anything else.”
“True. They must prove that they know how to manage, solve and take advantage of everything that they may not like at first. They will be responsible for our businesses sooner rather than later.”
“Although if our wives were here, they would say that the most important thing is love.”
“It is important, I don’t deny it but saying that it is the most... anyway, it will also be up to them to solve that aspect. So, are we clear?”
“Absolutely. Let’s call the secretaries. We have a lot to plan. And a last toast.”
“To our success!”
“To our success!”
That night there were four men who suddenly felt a chill down their spines, despite not being a cold night.
