Her eyes stared at me, drunk on hope as she held the blade to her throat, “You promised you would help me do this.”

“You never said I would have to do this?!” I pulled away from her hold, shaking my head profusely, “How could you even ask this of me?”

Even on her worst day, she still looked otherworldly, a woman truly worthy of worship. As she stood, the potted plants in her hotel room had even begun to turn to face her, reaching out as if giddy to touch her. The moonlight streamed in from the window, hitting her hair at such an angle that if you were to squint, it was like it was glowing.

It fell around her face like an angelic halo, even now when it was unbrushed and sticking to her forehead with the sweat of her nerves. She was going to die tonight, and she wanted me to do it.

“You promised-

“I promised you I would set you free,” My fingertips trembled with the weight of the weapon in my clutches. “But we come here and you hand me this? What exactly are you expecting me to do

with this!?”

She seemed to have caught sight of herself in the full-body mirror and suddenly she was across the room drawing the curtains closed as if she didn’t want someone to see. Didn’t wantthemto see. On her way to the light switch, she swatted away the leaf of a monstera plant that had caressed her but that only seemed to encourage it to reach for her further.

“I changed my mind.”

I laughed dryly, ”Youchangedyourmind?” I tried to calm the heat rising in my chest and the aching in my heart, “You don’t get to make another plan without telling me. Not like this!”

“We can’t do the pill thing anymore,” she spoke in a soothing voice whilst taking a step towards me cautiously, “We need something bloody, something horrifying that they won’t forget.” There was a sharp cracking sound in the room as the roots of the plants had begun to pry out of their clay shells. They crawled out of their pots slowly, but when you’d blink they were double the size they’d been before.

“You’re dying the day before you receive the biggest prize in the world,” I hissed, “What is more unforgettable than that?!”

“A spectacle,” she replied simply, the cream carpet was stained brown with the dirt of the plants as they began to make their way towards her- no longer settling for just being near “It started with one and I’m ending it with one. It needs to look hateful and completely despicable, but most importantly done by one of them.”

“One of them?” I repeated.

“One of you,” she admitted finally, “They need to know that evenIwas not protected by the Gods when I needed them the most.”

My hands curled tighter around the large knife, preparing to sink it into my wife’s neck. I closed the gap between us and blinked back the tears when I saw her calm expression in the blade’s reflection, “I love you,” I told her, hoping that for once she would believe me.

“I promise not to scream.”

“Cher-

“Please don’t make me stop,” she groaned as she continued to plant wet kisses along my shoulder before replacing her lips with her tongue. “You don’t know how long I’ve waited to do this,” Her hands dug into my hips as she continued to grind into me, “How long I’ve had to pretend I didn’t want to.”
