"Listen. LISTEN. This book had no right being this addictive. I sat down thinking “Oh, I’ll just read a couple chapters while the twins are napping.” Cut to me, wide-eyed at 2:47 AM, whisper-screaming at my phone like “kiss her you coward!” while my husband sleep-breathes like a judgmental mountain troll next to me. Let’s break it down, chaos-goblin style: 💖 What I LOVED: Lila. My academic queen. I’d die for her. Maybe because she’s studying anthropology (a.k.a. My One True Academic Love™), or maybe because she’s smart, hilarious, and somehow still relatable even while being sexier than I’ll ever be on my best day with dry shampoo and no toddler snot on my shirt. Lucas. Tall, broody, hot. Loves rules but also loves ignoring them for ✨feelings✨. Basically the holy trinity: Coach, Alpha, Faithful. He simmers, and then he burns. Lila’s brother = the golden retriever chaos you didn't know you needed. Had to double-check a few times that he wasn’t in high school because he had that "teenager in a Marvel hoodie chugging Mountain Dew" vibe. Loved him anyway. The SPICE. 👀🌶️ There were scenes in this book that made me re-evaluate my entire elevator etiquette. Like—do people actually do that in elevators on their first meeting?? Is this a thing? Do I need to start carrying emergency lip balm and a list of safe words just to ride to floor 5? 🤨 What made me side-eye: That elevator scene. Look, I’m no prude. I’ve read things that would make Zeus blush. But that level of sexual intensity during a first “nice to meet you”?? My inner biologist was short-circuiting trying to rationalize those hormones. I had to suspend my disbelief so high it was doing pull-ups on a ceiling fan. Carmen. WHY was she so rage-chihuahua? Like girl, calm down. Take a nap. Eat a bagel. The level of animosity she had for Lucas and Lila felt less “professional conflict” and more “possessed by a petty demon.” Give me a little backstory, at least. I need to know what happened in your childhood to make you this committed to being a menace. Overall: This book was emotional comfort food with extra jalapeños. I laughed. I groaned. I yelled “JUST TALK TO EACH OTHER” more times than I care to admit. It gave me a HEA that actually felt earned, and enough tension to iron my laundry on. Perfect if you like: Forbidden romance but with actual heart Smart women falling for men who respect them (😩 yes please) Teammate’s sister + coach tension Banter, spice, and a side of angst Final Score: 🖤 Plot: 9/10 🖤 Characters: 10/10 🖤 Spice Level: “Send help, I’ve shorted out my brainstem” 🖤 Realism: 7/10 (because elevators) 🖤 Emotional payoff: Chef’s kiss Would absolutely recommend. Just maybe avoid reading it in public unless you're okay with blushing like a Victorian widow caught with ankle showing."
