Prologue: In the Belly of the Beast
I did not think I would end up here. If you had asked me what I would be doing by the end of my freshman year in high school, I would never have said I would be held captive in a cave by a big mindless, muscular monster near mountains in Norvale, Montana. If I told you I had weird superpowers that I still don’t understand, would you believe me? This past year has been nothing short of dramas, from starting high school to discovering the legend of the “Degrunt” monster. I was just a normal goth chick. Well, as normal as any teenage goth chick can get.
I wonder what my mom and Jax are thinking right now? They must be worried sick. It was devastating to hear about all the other kids who disappeared. My mother most likely hoped that I would never disappear and be a victim of the infamous “Degrunt” monster of Norvale. Are the police actively looking for me? I know my mom got a new job here, but you’d think hearing about a monster near a town would make you question the shadiness of it. On the other hand, she probably thought the monster was an urban legend like the rest of the town. Let’s face it: no rational, sane person would believe the Degrunt is real. Except for Nutty Norman, who believes in all kinds of crazy s#!t.
Am I going to die? This is also not how I thought I would die, murdered by a monster in a cave in Montana. It sure might be an interesting way to go, just not the way I had in mind. I thought I would probably die of old age or unexpected health consequences. If I die from this, no one will know the details. It would be a mystery. Well, if I am going to die, I might as well tell you my story. Let’s start from the beginning…
