Chapter 1

She lay on the muddy ground, her eyes focused on the scope. The rain poured and soaked the pair of them, they were in a field with no cover. She took a steady breath and pulled the trigger, hitting the target. “Nice one Casper!” Her comrade exclaimed and slapped her on the back with force. She didn’t make a sound before standing up and packing up her rifle before their location was locked and they were fired upon. “I owe you a beer!” The soldier said. Adjusting her voice to make it sound masculine, she answered:

“You didn’t think I was going to make the shot?”

“No,” her fellow soldier said.

“You always underestimate me!” She responds. They wander back to the camp and join everyone else but Cas keeps to herself, her tent is away from the rest of the men, and she wants to keep her feminity hidden away from the men. She walked into her tent and placed her rifle down, she looked at her phone she had multiple missed calls from her family but she ignored them and cleared her phone, however, one text caught her eye. ‘You changed your name?! Is the family name not good enough for you anymore?’ She rolls her eyes and places her phone down. She heard one of the men banging an empty metal food pan summoning everyone to the fire pit.

“Dinners ready you miserable lot!” The cook yelled, she pulls up her mask and cap low poking her hair up into it and emerged from her tent. She kept to the shadows, her brother’s baggy uniform covered her figure and swamped her curves, she had been with them for a few months and no one had discovered her secret. Her Colonel, König, returned a lot later than them and sat opposite her eating his fill too. She averted his gaze, he made her nervous and felt like he could see right through her and could blow her cover. She finished and threw her pan away into the wash before returning to her tent, grabbed her towels and toothpaste and walked to the river away from the main camp.

She used the water to wash herself and clean her teeth. She checked over her shoulder and she was alone, once done she wiped her face and pulled her hood up covering her face again. She walked past a few of her men as they too went to the river to get ready for bed. She laid down on her sleeping bag, hiding her female shape and assets. She reached for the photograph next to her and looked at her brother. “I miss you, Casper!” She whispered to herself, she missed her brother every day but now she kept his memory alive as she wore his uniform every day, his dog tags chinked around her neck as she played with them.

She placed the photograph back in its protective sleeve above her head, facing her as she slept. She sighed, turned over and let the world of sleep consume her but her dreams were filled with a certain colonel.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
