Chapter 1 - Stalker

It was fine Monday morning that awaited me because it was you whom I was thinking. The feeling was unbearably thrilling. But I felt so warm because of the sun rays that touched directly into my skin as I followed you patiently, timidly. Oh, how beautiful it was to stare at your back. In every walk, stop, and turn you’re doing, I was only a meter away from you, STALKING.

I knew that you had no idea that I was here. I knew that you wouldn’t think that you had a STALKER. I remember the first day when I saw you. You’re wearing an all-white coat with a stethoscope hanging around your neck. Your face looked tame, maybe because of your glasses. But when you spoke, I was surprised because your voice was cold as ice. I am disappointed to admit that you were a snob. You always frowned and winced whenever people approached you. Yet for me,you were so undeniably attractive.

As I was leaning on this wall, staring at you while patients ran from the Emergency room’s main door. You were there, on-hands, in every acute injury to save lives. I didn’t want to sink into the truth of what was happening to me. Though I was barely so sure I was falling in love with you-the reason why I took a photo of you secretly. Suddenly, you waved a hand at me, calling for me.

This heart beating naturally moments ago suddenly accelerated, pumping unbelievably fast. I felt like I had drunk fifty vodkas. I was still clinching how I would talk to a good-looking snob doctor. But, before my head pushed the idea, you were just there, bend-headed on your checkboard while seriously writing my prescriptions. I was jealous of your pen and notes because you preferred to stare at them rather than me.

However, on my way out to the door, you finally took a glance at me. And there, the butterflies in my stomach, making me smile back unknowingly. Right then, I just realized that the smile you’re wearing was not for me. It was for the girl behind me, walking towards you, holding your hand, and kissing your lips, obviously, your girlfriend.

It’s crazy that I felt sad thinking I was rejected by a man who never knew me.

A man who wouldn’t waste time on someone like me.

A man I just dreamed about in one second and now was all gone.

How idiot am I breaking my heart to the man I never had!

I left the painful scenery to avoid witnessing more and continued walking. Foolishly, carelessly wandering. But then, to my surprise, you called me back.

“MISS!” You shouted that I was terrified while turning my back slowly. “Stretcher!” I heard you call once again.

It felt so great to be in your arms, wrapping me carefully. It was so great to feel your heart as I pressed into your chest. Everything felt so great. However, I was wondering why my heart was painful.

Then, I heard the mechanical ventilator alarm, and the resuscitation room filled with sudden commotion.

“40!” I heard you instructing one of your interns while using the defibrillator shock.

“CLEAR!” The intern replied, but the machine didn’t give any response.

“Again!” You wanted to repeat the process. I wonder who it was that you’re trying to save.

“CLEAR!” The intern replied again, and still, there was no response.

“Doc?” Then, she glanced at you, and you left the room.

I was leaning on the wall staring at the most handsome man I’d ever met. How confusing? I knew you didn’t remember my name and had no idea who I was. But why are you staring back at me? I was so confused that I found myself walking towards you.

Oh, why were my feet not touching the ground?

Why am I floating?

“She’s just there, quietly standing earlier?” I heard you speak sadly.

Could it be that it was me?

NO! PLEASE!

“Doc! We got a signal!” The mechanical ventilator beeped continuously.

“Are you following me again?” His voice echoed from behind, which shocked me.

“Doctor Ian,” I shyly said because I didn’t notice that he already saw me.

“It’s Christian, don’t you remember?” He was frowning, like always.

“Ian is such a cute name.” I smiled like always too.

“Whatever! Are you a Stalker? I will call the police.” He threatened, grinning.

“No, I’m a ghost. How can you see me? Do you have a third eye?” I beamed.

“No, but I guess you’re insane.” He murmured, and then we both laughed.
