Chapter 1

I had been in my office reading over some paperwork when she walked in. Or rather, she fell in. The scent of her blood hit me like a freight train. Creamy and fruity and floral all at once. It made my mouth water. I could hear her heartbeat, pushing her blood through her veins. I thought about that blood, red and thick, spilling from her skin. Pouring down into my waiting mouth. I had to bite back a moan and fight to regain control over my lengthening fangs.

All of this happened in the span of a second. The girl was still falling. I moved faster than she could see and grabbed her arm. A tingle shot through my hand. Her close proximity made her blood even more potent. Fire burned in my suddenly parched mouth and throat. My fangs were fighting to come out again, and my muscles were poised to pounce. I could imagine it.

She would let out a little scream before I covered her mouth. But it would be too late. My fangs would already be buried deep in her neck, her sweet blood quenching my thirst. I started to make my move...and then she looked up at me.

Fiery dark red hair framed a small pale oval face. Pretty pink lips and cheeks growing red with blush. And her eyes. They were the most beautiful shade of blue-grey.

The tingling in my body redoubled, and suddenly, every fiber in my being was screaming one word.

Mate.
