Chapter 1: ’Tis The Season
My name is Elizabeth Snow and I work as the HR director for Starbound Enterprises. We are a huge entertainment firm run by a hardass CEO by the name of Frank Drevins.
The holidays are the only time that Mr. Drevins appears to be human because the rest of the year he closes himself off to everyone and everything, ambition seems to be the only thing that drives him. All employees, including myself, have signed NDAs expressly forbidding us to speak about what goes on here at Starbound and are to only give rehearsed answers once we leave this building as well.
I enjoy my work, but l yearn for something more, as well as, someone to come home to besides my two cats, Scrooge and Snowball. A few of the employees here have families, but I just have my cats. I have tried to date, but they all end up being disasters if they even happen at all. Men say that they are after a future wife when in reality they’re just after someone to get their dick wet. I was promiscuous in college, but who wasn’t? Now that I am closer to my thirties than my twenties, I want something real. Fantasy is nice for a few nights, but it will never be there when you’re depressed or sick. Fantasy won’t tuck you in at night and make you a cup of tea in the morning.
I have missed a few days of work this week and today is the office Christmas party. We do it every Christmas Eve and then we are closed until New Year’s Day, so I came in early and will stay late if I need to. I am looking forward to lounging at home while reading and binging on every show that I have missed out on this year. If the few resumes that I have out yield any results, I might start the new year by giving my two-week notice. I know better than to just up and leave because the last person who did that was blacklisted. I literally can’t afford to be naughty!
