The Mission
It was midnight. The city was quiet, but five figures in black spy suits were moving through the shadows.
Damian led the team into a large underground building. Inside, there were security traps everywhere. They had to steal a priceless artifact kept in the center of the room.
As they stepped inside, Jean quickly scanned the floor. "Be careful. Some tiles are dangerous. If they light up, the floor will change."
Damian nodded. "Let's go."
Yuki moved first, stepping lightly. Luke followed, using his speed to avoid pressure plates. Shazam, usually joking, was completely focused. Jean pointed out the safe path while Damian watched everything carefully.
Just as they reached the artifact, Yuki grabbed it. But the moment she lifted it, alarms blared. The floor turned into a slippery plastic-like surface, and walls shot out traps—lasers, spikes, and darts.
"Run!" Damian ordered.
They dodged and jumped, moving fast. Luke was the first to escape, followed by Jean. Yuki and Shazam slid under the closing door, and Damian was the last one out.
Outside, their he bikes were waiting. Damian, Yuki, and Shazam jumped on their bikes and sped off. Jean and Luke ran towards theirs, barely escaping the guards.
As they raced through the dark city streets, Shazam laughed. "That was close!"
Jean sighed. "Too close."
They rode fast, turning into narrow alleys. But when they finally stopped…
"This isn’t our base," Luke said, looking around.
They had entered the wrong house.
"Let’s go before we get caught," Damian said, annoyed.
They quickly left and stopped at a ramen shop. Taking off their helmets, they went inside and ordered ramen.
Just as they started eating, Damian suddenly froze. His dad was outside.
His father, a rich businessman, was jogging past. Damian quickly signaled the others to hide.
His dad walked up to him. "Damian? What are you doing here with your bike?"
Damian kept his face calm. "Just eating ramen."
Damian kept his face calm. "Just eating ramen."
His dad raised an eyebrow but nodded. "I was just passing by. Don’t stay out too late."
As soon as he left, everyone let out a sigh of relief.
"That was close," Yuki said, drinking her broth.
Jean looked at Luke and Shazam. "You two were running so slow. Why?"
Shazam grinned. "Even if we got caught, we had our walkie-talkies on."
Damian smirked. "That’s why we make a great team."
The warm ramen felt good after the intense mission. The five of them sat in a quiet corner of the shop, talking in hushed voices.
"We should have been faster," Damian said, stirring his noodles.
"You say that, but we still made it out," Shazam grinned. "Besides, I looked cool while escaping."
Jean rolled her eyes. "You tripped over a crate."
"That was part of the plan," Shazam defended himself. "Distraction, you know?"
Yuki laughed. "You’re lucky you weren’t caught."
Luke, who had been quietly eating, finally spoke. "The security was tougher than expected."
Damian nodded. "Yeah. That means our next mission will be even harder."
At that moment, the doorbell of the ramen shop rang as a group of men in black suits walked in. They were from the security team of the place they had just robbed.
"Stay calm," Jean whispered, pretending to take a sip of soup.
One of the men scanned the room, his sharp eyes moving from table to table.
Damian clenched his fist under the table. If they were recognized, they would have to run again.
"We just act normal," Yuki said softly. "They have no proof it was us."
The men ordered ramen and sat a few tables away. The tension in the air was thick, but Damian kept his expression blank.
Then, one of the men’s phones rang.
"Sir, the five intruders escaped, but we found their escape route," the voice on the other end said. "We’ll catch them soon."
Shazam smirked. "They don’t even know we’re right next to them."
Damian shot him a warning look.
The security men kept talking about the heist, unaware that the very people they were chasing were sitting just meters away.
After finishing their meal, Damian threw some cash on the table. "Let’s go."
They put their helmets on and walked out, making sure not to attract attention.
Once outside, they started their bikes.
"We should lay low for a while," Jean suggested.
"But we also need to find out who owns that artifact," Yuki added. "Why was it so heavily guarded?"
Damian’s eyes darkened. He had the same question.
"Let’s meet at the hideout," he ordered. "We need to plan our next move."
With that, the five of them sped off into the night, disappearing into the city like ghosts.
The roar of their bikes echoed through the empty streets as they raced towards their hideout. Hidden deep in an abandoned warehouse, it was the perfect place to plan their missions.
As soon as they arrived, Damian locked the doors, and they all gathered around the large table in the center of the room. The stolen artifact—a small, black box with strange engravings—sat in the middle.
Jean adjusted her glasses. "We need to figure out what this is."
"It doesn’t look like jewelry or a statue," Yuki said, tilting her head. "Why was it guarded like some national treasure?"
Shazam, lying back on the couch, tossed a ball in the air. "Maybe it’s cursed. Should we burn it?"
Damian shot him a cold glare. "Shazam."
"Okay, okay," Shazam sighed, sitting up. "Let me check if it’s electronic."
He took out a small scanner and waved it over the box. The screen flashed.
"There’s something inside," he said, narrowing his eyes. "But it’s locked with some kind of security system. If I try to force it open, it might self-destruct."
"Great," Luke muttered.
Jean leaned forward. "Then we need to find out who wanted this thing. If we know its owner, we can figure out why it was hidden."
Damian crossed his arms. "I already have a guess."
The room fell silent as everyone looked at him.
"The security team at the ramen shop," Damian said. "They weren’t just looking for intruders. They were looking for us."
Yuki’s eyes widened. "You think they know we have the artifact?"
"Not yet," Damian said. "But they will soon."
Shazam grinned. "Then we better find out the truth before they find us."
Jean grabbed her laptop and started typing. "Give me a few minutes. I’ll hack into their security database and see what I can find."
While she worked, Luke walked over to the window and looked out. "We should be careful. If they’re searching the city, we can’t afford to be caught."
Yuki smirked. "Let them try."
After a few minutes, Jean’s screen beeped.
"I found something," she announced. "The place we robbed was owned by a powerful underground organization. And the leader…"
She turned the laptop towards them. A picture of a sharp-eyed man in a suit appeared on the screen.
Damian’s expression darkened.
"It’s my father’s company."
Everyone stared at him in shock.
"Wait," Shazam said, sitting up straight. "Your dad was the one guarding this thing?"
Damian clenched his jaw. "And now he’s looking for it."
Yuki frowned. "Does he know it was you?"
"Not yet," Damian said. "But if he finds out…"
A tense silence filled the room.
Jean broke it. "Then we have to move fast. If this artifact is connected to your father, it must be important. We need to know why."
Damian nodded. "Then our next mission is clear."
Shazam stretched. "Guess we’re not resting tonight, huh?"
Damian smirked. "Not a chance."
They all exchanged determined looks.
The heist was over.
But the real mission was just beginning.
As the clock struck 10 PM, the team knew it was time to pack up. Staying out too long would make their parents suspicious, and the last thing they needed was unnecessary attention.
Damian picked up the small black box and looked at it for a moment. He didn’t like bringing unknown items home, but he also didn’t trust leaving it unguarded.
"We need to hide this," he said.
"How about we put it under Shazam’s bed?" Yuki suggested with a smirk.
"Yeah, sure," Shazam grinned. "Right next to my socks and a half-eaten burger."
Jean rolled her eyes. "No. We need a secure place."
They all thought for a moment before Luke finally spoke. "The abandoned subway tunnel. No cameras, no people."
Damian nodded. "That’ll work. Let’s move."
The five of them rode to an old, unused subway station deep in the city. They found a hidden maintenance room and placed the box inside an old metal locker, locking it securely.
"Alright," Damian said, shutting the locker door. "No one comes here alone. We check on it together."
Shazam stretched. "Great. Now let’s go home before my mom calls the cops on me again."
Jean raised an eyebrow. "Again?"
Shazam shrugged. "Last time I was late, she reported me missing. Turns out I was asleep in my closet."
Yuki laughed. "How do you even—never mind."
With that, they all parted ways, each taking their own route .
Damian rode through the empty streets, the cool night air brushing against his face. But his mind wasn’t at peace.
Why was his father’s company protecting that artifact?
What was inside that box?
And what would happen if his father found out he had stolen it?
His grip on the handlebars tightened. His father wasn’t a normal businessman. He was powerful, dangerous, and secretive. If that box belonged to him, it wasn’t just some random artifact. It was something important.
Damian hated mysteries he couldn’t solve.
As he pulled into his driveway, he parked his bike and sighed. He wasn’t in the mood to deal with anything else tonight.
He stepped inside and tossed his helmet onto the table, then flopped onto the living room sofa, rubbing his temples in frustration.
Just then, his mother walked in.
"You’re home late," she said, crossing her arms. "Did you finish your assignment?"
Damian blinked. For a second, he had forgotten he was a university student.
"Uh… yeah," he muttered.
His mother narrowed her eyes. "Damian. You’re in your last year of criminology. You can’t afford to slack off now."
Oh, the irony, Damian thought. Here he was, studying crime while committing them at night.
"I know, Mom. I’m just tired," he sighed.
She softened a little. "Alright. Just don’t push yourself too hard."
He nodded, pretending to be exhausted from studying instead of running from security guards and hiding stolen artifacts.
As she left, Damian leaned back on the sofa and stared at the ceiling.
His mother was right—he had to be careful.
If he wasn’t, he wouldn’t just fail his criminology degree.
He’d get caught......
The next morning, Damian’s alarm buzzed loudly. He groaned, rubbing his eyes. Last night’s events played in his mind, but he forced himself to push them aside.
Act normal.
He got up, dressed in his usual black jeans and jacket, and grabbed his university bag. As he walked downstairs, he immediately noticed something unusual.
His father was sitting at the dining table, his expression tense. The usual sharp and confident businessman looked… distracted.
Damian already knew why.
He silently took a seat at the table and started eating his breakfast. The silence stretched between them until Damian finally spoke.
"Are you okay, Dad?"
His father barely looked up from his coffee. "Hmm? Oh. Yeah, just… work stuff."
Damian kept his expression neutral. "Something serious?"
His father exhaled, rubbing his temples. "Some idiots broke into one of our storage facilities last night. Stole something important."
Damian took a slow bite of his toast, acting uninterested. "Really? What was stolen?"
His father glanced at him, eyes sharp. "Nothing you need to worry about."
But Damian could tell it wasn’t just ‘nothing.’ His father was deeply affected by this.
"Security must have been bad if they got away," Damian commented casually.
His father scoffed. "That’s what bothers me. They were professionals. Knew exactly where to go, avoided all traps, and disappeared without a trace." He leaned back in his chair. "It wasn’t just some small gang."
Damian kept his face unreadable, but inside, his mind was racing.
So, my father really doesn’t know it was us.
Good.
His father sighed and stood up. "I have a meeting. See you later."
Damian nodded, watching him leave. As soon as the door shut, he let out a quiet breath.
That was close.
His mother walked in, smiling. "You’re quiet today. Thinking about your assignment?"
"Yeah," Damian said quickly, standing up. "I should get going."
She kissed his forehead. "Study hard. Your criminology degree won’t complete itself."
Damian smirked. Oh, if only she knew.
At University
Damian arrived at university and headed to the usual spot where his team gathered. Yuki, Shazam, Jean, and Luke were already there.
Shazam was eating a bag of chips. "Look who finally showed up. Survived breakfast interrogation?"
"Yeah," Damian muttered. "My dad is already on the case."
Jean leaned forward. "Does he suspect you?"
"No," Damian said. "But he knows we were professionals."
Shazam smirked. "Well, duh. We are professionals."
Luke looked at Jean. "Did you find out anything more about the artifact?"
Jean opened her laptop. "Not yet. But I traced the encryption on the box. It’s military-grade. Whatever is inside, it’s something big."
Yuki crossed her arms. "So… what do we do now?"
Damian’s eyes darkened. "We find out what’s in that box. And we do it before my father does."
The others nodded.
Their mission wasn’t over.
It was just beginning.
To be continued…
