I don’t know what to feel…
"First, I’ll pick at a couple of mistakes, 1) because it’s not all that bad, and 2) because it gets the bad out of the way. In several places in the novel, Jayme was referred to as Jared, or Jerry, and Simon was referred to as Shannon, or something similar, so it was sometimes confusing at first. Even as I make this review, I’m still grasping how to describe it. It is somewhat suspenseful, in that you always want to know what will happen next, but the drama ends up, in my opinion, underwhelming. On the upside, it will keep you guessing, and prove you wrong still. While it is a very long novel, it fizzles in, gets somewhat dramatic, and then abruptly ends. I find Vanya as a victim from the beginning, getting chewed up and spit out at every turn, in the end choosing a life that will silently torture her. However, the story ends and that is left to the imagination. On the other hand, being a man of forgiveness and reconciliation, I find myself at a crossroads. In the end, you see her do the right thing, something in reality this world is dead to. If you find yourself harboring unforgiveness, this might be the novel you should read. Because in the end, humility, compassion, and eventually forgiveness can still be found…"
