Introduction
This book would not exist if, 1: I hadn't done some work with WordCrafters of Eugene, and, 2: if my daughter had not kept a hope in her heart that I would join and utilize the group. She knows I am a loner, always have been, but she saw something in WordCrafters that I needed. Welp, on one fine day I got an email that I decided to open and it was an invitation to join a "Write-a-Thon" to raise money for the group. Normally this would not have even caught my interest, but this time it did.
It was simple, make a goal, mine was to write 1000 words a day, and get people to donate based on me doing what I said I was going to do with a $300 fundraising goal. On day 14, I changed my goal to 30,000 words in 30 days. Same thing, or same number of words, but it greatly decreased my stress about missing a day of writing due to life "life-ing", and as I stay ahead of my word count with ease the change was good for my mental health.
On the first day of the Write-a-Thon, I joined a group of women, via Zoom, and we wrote during from 0900-1200, with breaks. Not only did I write 0ver 100o words, that became the start of this book, I wrote about 2000 words in my current work in progress, The Wages of Sin, one of my spiritual fiction books.
I didn't need to do anything but write 30,000 words in the next 30 days, and this could have been done in any of my books in progress or one waiting in line to get on deck. That was my initial plan, to just write the books I was already working on. But this Write-a-Thon wanted its own voice, and here we are.
Each short story in this book will show you the word count as well as the date it was written. This book is full of random thoughts in my mind that turn themselves into stories, with a little typing on my part. The coolest thing, though, this book gives a voice to the importance of groups like WordCrafters of Eugene, who exist to make sure that writers continue to have not only a voice, but support. If we didn't exist neither would your favorite book, TV show, or movie. Nor would knowledge or learning. Writers are critical to the evolution of this planet and its inhabitants.
So, In honor of the WordCrafters of Eugene 2025 Write-a-Thon, I present to you "Crafting Words".
