Chapter 1: The Forgotten Door

Ethan had lived in the old Victorian house for two years before he noticed the door. It was in the basement, hidden behind a dusty shelf filled with broken tools and boxes of old books. The strange part was, he had moved that shelf himself when he first arrived—and there had been no door behind it.

One evening, while looking for a flashlight, he accidentally knocked over a box. As he picked up the fallen books, he saw it: a narrow, wooden door with a brass handle, slightly ajar. A chill ran down his spine.

Taking a deep breath, he pulled the door open. A dimly lit staircase spiraled downward. He hesitated, then stepped inside. The air smelled of damp earth and something faintly metallic. As he descended, the sound of a ticking clock echoed through the darkness.

At the bottom, he found himself in a circular room. In the center stood a pedestal, and on it rested an old pocket watch, its hands spinning backward. The walls were lined with faded photographs—of people he didn’t recognize… until he saw the last one.

It was a picture of him. But he was much older.

A whisper brushed against his ear. “You found it, Ethan.”
