Chapter 1

Mina

I watched him swing that massive hammer one more time.

CLANG.

His muscles bulged as he brought it up high above his head and slammed it down with such force that I felt it deep within me.

CLANG.

Just one more swing, I promised myself. After this one I will leave and stop perving on Reksa’an.

CLANG.

I bit my lip and rubbed my thighs together unconsciously. Okay, that one was too fast. I barely got to enjoy it… one more.

CLANG.

I was about to turn away - I swear! - and go back to delivering packages when the mammoth of a man suddenly snapped his head in my direction, eyes locked right on me. He froze mid-swing.

Soot from the forge smudged his chest. A single bead of sweat rolled down his face and neck, making its way over his rock-solid peck, dipping through his well-defined abs, and disappearing past his marked V.

Even in what should’ve been an awkward position, he looked so. damn. hot.

“Lady Mina,” he said in that ridiculously deep voice of his. “Do you have something for me?”

Everything, buddy. Just name it and it’s yours.

“Uh, hi, Reks,” I said, trying to sound casual. His ear twitched at the nickname I’d given him. I'd never asked if I could shorten his name or heard anyone else call him that, but he’d never mentioned it.

Whether it was his stiff manners or something else, that ear twitching was the only indication he noticed it, and I looked forward to the cute gesture every time.

“I don’t actually have any packages for you today. But I was hoping you could point me to Bazmir’s,” I said lamely, reading the closest package in my hand.

His brow furrowed.

Unsurprising. This was the third time this week I used directions to Bazmir’s place as cover for creeping on him. He probably thought I was an idiot by now.

I blame Bazmir entirely. Why did he have to get so much mail?

Reks put the hammer down with a thud.

He grabbed a nearby rag and began wiping his hands as he approached. He smelled like fire and sweat and just MAN. It took all in me not to shove my face in his chest and take a big whiff.

Oh, god, I’m so whipped it’s not even funny.

He stood a respectful distance away, of course, but hunched himself down in an attempt to not tower over menacingly (not that it really helped hide his massive size).

I overheard Elder Gaza warning the warriors not to scare the women as they’d been through a lot. I would’ve told Reks not to bother giving me space, but I thought of Anna and Katrina and recalled why Elder Gaza gives instructions and not me.

Better safe than sorry.

Reks glanced at the package in my hand. He held in a sigh. “Lady Mina, that package says, ‘Bazken’ not ‘Bazmir’.”

Fine, so it was Bazken’s fault. “Does it? Dang. And here I thought I was getting the hang of your alphabet.”

Reks’ tail twitched. I wasn’t sure what to make of it.

I’d been pretty good at reading human expressions but tails were still new to me.

“It’s not your fault, Lady Mina. A lot of our symbols look the same…”

I smiled up at him. Of course he would try to make me feel better. It’s why - aside from the fact that Reks was a total hunk - I liked him so much. He was just such a teddy bear.

“Perhaps you can help me with the deliveries today, then? I wouldn’t want to leave all these things at the wrong place…”

He looked down at the cart of letters and packages I’d been pushing around.

“If you have time, that is. I’ve imposed enough on you as it is.”

He cleared his throat. “You can always count on my help, Lady Mina. I will take care of this.”

Before I fully processed what he said, he’d already taken the cart from me and turned back to his tools.

“Wait. I thought we could just go together. You know, so you could teach me more about… the alphabet and directions.”

He turned slowly. His eyes darted between the cart, the village behind me, and me. “I think it might be more… efficient… if I do it myself. Do not worry. I will head out once I tidy up here, so they won’t be late, Lady Mina.”

Disappointment rang right through me. I guess I did convince him I was a little slow. “Oh, okay. If you’re sure you don’t mind…”

He flicked his tail in a manner I did recognize. “I don’t mind at all. Enjoy the rest of your day, Lady Mina.”

“You, too, Reks,” I said as I turned. I caught that little ear flick again and couldn’t help but smile a bit, even though I would’ve preferred to spend the day with Reks.

Reksa’an

I held my breath as she walked away, my body feeling like it would explode. I waited until her dainty footsteps no longer rang in my ears.

Then I rushed inside, slammed the door behind me, and tore my pants down.

My cock sprang out from its painful bindings.

I wrapped my hand around it and yanked at it roughly, rushing for release.

I could still smell her faintly. She smelled of flowers and rain. So sweet and pure. Just like her smile.

My balls tightened as that smile said Reks in my mind.

My hand was furious in its pursuit now.

Reks... she whispered in my mind again and my cock exploded. I panted hard, back against the door.

This was the last time. It had to be.

How disgusted she would be if she knew what I did behind this door every time I saw her. If she knew of the images that my mind conjured every time she called me Reks in that bright, airy voice.

Lady Faye had explained to me once that Lady Mina had given me a nickname. She said human people did that sometimes for those they were fond of. I listened intently after that to conversations Lady Mina had.

She used nicknames with the other human women but, at least for now, I was the only warrior she had bestowed with a nickname.

I cleaned myself up, feeling my betrayal churning deep in my gut, again.

Lady Mina trusted me. The human women were wary of others, but Lady Mina always smiled at everyone, including me. And she always asked for my help - mine - when she needed it.

I have no prestigious rank or bloodline to boast, nor am I a clever warrior. I make the best weapons this side of the planet, true, but only because of my size and temperament. It’s tiring and tedious work that most warriors don’t care for.

Yet, Lady Mina spoke highly of my work to others. She sought my advice often. Told the other women I was a good warrior they could trust.

And that’s where I betrayed her. Because I could not even trust myself to help her deliver packages without wanting to pull her into the nearest empty hut and bury my face in her sweet cunt. And by the gods, if it was half as sweet as her smell then I would drown myself in her jui-

Fuck. I could feel my cock coming back to life again and stopped that thought. I pulled the ties of my pants tight to keep my cock in place.

I had work to do. And I promised Lady Mina I would finish her deliveries.

I stepped outside and headed straight for the cart of deliveries. There, sticking out from underneath some letters, I spotted a piece of fabric. I recognized it as Lady Mina’s. I stared at her so often from the shadows that I would know anything of hers from moros away. This was something the humans called a scarf that was meant to keep their necks warm.

I should return it to her. Definitely.

Lady Mina was as delicate as the other human women. More than some, even. She needed it for warmth. I would return it to her when I returned the cart.

For some reason, I shoved it into the pocket of my vest instead.

Mina

I threw myself onto the bed dramatically and covered my eyes with an arm.

“Help me, please,” I begged.

I couldn’t see it but I could basically hear Faye rolling her eyes. “Reksa’an?”

I flopped onto my stomach and propped myself up on my elbows. “Is it that obvious?”

“Yes,” Faye said dryly. Nelly giggled. “What? It is.”

Thea smiled faintly. It warmed my heart whenever she did. It was why I felt so comfortable being myself around this group of women. Although on Earth people often found me too much, here my theatrics made Thea smile, even if only a little. Even Faye, through all her eye rolling, was secretly enjoying this.

“He is pretty hot,” Maite agreed. “He’s so huge, and all those muscles.”

“Hey, find your own dreamy hunk. Dibs are dibs,” I said with a pout and threw a pillow at her. She dodged it and laughed.

“Fair enough. Plenty of muscle to go around here.”

They began gushing about the many, many sexy guys living in the village. It really was like an all you could eat buffet of hot men every time you stepped out.

I joined in with their squeals but my heart wasn’t in it. Because there was only one that took me from ‘that’s nice to look at’ to ‘I can’t look away’.

“But really, though. What am I going to do? I’m so into him and he’s so…”

“Quiet?” said Maite.

“No,” I replied.

“Serious?” Nelly tried.

“No,” I said, my irritation mounting.

“Boring,” Faye volunteered.

I lunged at her and went right for the ticklish spot behind her knee.

“No! He’s none of those things. He’s sweet, kind, and very gentleman-like. A-and he’s always so careful not to scare us, because he knows he’s so big and we’re so small. And he never treats me like I’m dumb even though I said a lot of dumb things around him. Like… a lot of dumb things.” I climbed off Faye and rubbed at my forehead in frustration, my fire waning.

Sera whistled softly. “Oh, girl. You got it so bad.”

I felt tears prickle in my eyes. “I do, don’t I?”

Many arms came around me. It was like a cocoon of sisterly love I always wanted back on Earth.

“Well,” Thea said with a determined glint in her eyes, “we have our mission ladies.”

Their smiles grew in a way that made my hands grow clammy. “Mission?”

Faye rubbed her hands together evilly. “Oh, yes. These boys don’t know how to handle us human women. We’ve just gotta… help them along.”

Reksa’an

Chief Banor snapped to attention as a knock interrupted the council meeting.

No one interrupted council meetings.

“Excuse me,” a loud voice came through. Lady Faye.

The council exchanged glances. All eyes settled on Chief Banor.

“Hello? I know you’re in there,” Lady Faye yelled, impatience tainting her voice.

Chief Banor sighed. “Let her in,” he said in a tired voice.

I reached out from my guard post and did so. The human women stepped in. Lady Faye was as bold as ever, marching in like it was her birthright, while the others seemed more hesitant. Chief Banor’s tail twitched but he maintained composure.

Towards the back stood Lady Mina with a shy look on her face. This was unlike her, but perhaps she recognized how inappropriate interrupting a council meeting was. She had mingled the most with our people out of all the human women, after all.

She looked in my direction and I could not feign I hadn’t been looking. Her face brightened a bit and she gave me a small smile. I chanced a glance at the council and saw they were all focused on Lady Faye. I gave Lady Mina a small human nod in response.

Her cheeks colored enticingly before she looked to the conversation.

“What is the matter?”

“Chief,” Lady Faye began, “after some study of your calendar, we’ve realized it will be time for a human holiday called Valentine’s Day in three days’ time. We would like the freedom and resources to plan it accordingly. And most importantly, the participation of your people.”

The council members were thrown into confusion. Chief Banor rubbed his chin. “A human holiday? Explain.”

Lady Faye didn’t miss a beat. “Humans have special dates, called holidays, they must honor and celebrate according to tradition. Each holiday has a different theme integral to the benefit of our society, such as strengthening family ties, giving back to the community, and honoring fallen warriors. ”

I could see some council members taken in by her words, especially about honoring fallen warriors. “These holidays are important for your people?”

“Very much so,” Lady Thea answered. The Chief straightened in his chair. Lady Thea seldom spoke. While Chief Banor - and all warriors- respected the human women, Lady Thea’s word carried much weight.

“Very well,” our Chief concluded. “What theme does this holiday honor, and how may our people participate?”

Lady Faye’s eyes shimmered. I felt unease in my stomach.

Anyone that spent any time around her could recognize that look meant trouble.

“Love and mating,” she said sweetly.

Too sweetly.

The warriors in the room tensed. I chanced a look at Dorek. Panic flashed in his eyes quickly before he neutralized his features.

Everyone must find a Valentine’s Day partner for the celebration,” Lady Faye explained in that sickly sweet voice.

Chief Banor swallowed thickly. “A Valentine’s Day partner?”

“Yup. Typically males must ask a female to be their partner and if she accepts they will exchange gifts and attend the celebration feast as…” she made a big show of thinking, “...mates. Yes, I believe that’s the word. Mates for the holiday.”

The council stared at her with wide eyes. Chief Banor had frozen in a way I’d never seen. Not even when the Gortiks threatened our walls.

I couldn’t blame him. I was already tensing in my spot while thinking of another warrior pretending to be Lady Mina’s mate.

The first to recover was Draximir. “Anything else we should know about this holiday?”

Lady Thea leveled her gaze on him, but it was Lady Faye that responded. “Choose your partner carefully.”

Vemoltak flicked his tail dismissively at her. "A fake mating? What a waste of time."

Lady Faye gave him a disbelieving look.

Her eyes flared at him. "Don't worry, I doubt anyone would agree to mate you, Vemoltak,” she spit at him. Then to the room,“I wouldn’t take too long thinking about it, though.” She studied her blunt claws. “It would be a shame if another man got to your mate first.”

With that, they walked out.

Chief Banor was caught somewhere between disbelief and anger. A few tense seconds passed before Vemoltak’s bitter laughter echoed through the council room. The Chief smacked him upside the head.

“What’s so amusing, General? You heard them, everyone must participate,” he said venomously.

Vemoltak shook his head. “Chief-”

The Chief gave him a look that sent shivers down my spine. “Everyone.”
