The Fairiest of All

Third person POV

Sitting above the waterfall with her feet skimming the surface, Saia watches the small fish darting around her toes.

Lately she has gotten into more trouble out of boredom, and she just wants something to do with her life. Having just turned 18, she has already graduated training school and doesn't have a clear path in life.

She hears her mother calling, so stands to dry her feet when she feels herself losing balance. Falling, she lands halfway in the water and manages to pull herself onto the rock she'd been sitting on.

"I have been calling you, young lady!" her mother scolds. Standing on the rock, she turns and flits to the shore beside her mother.

Water drips from her dress and hair as she tries to push it back from her face. "I heard you Mama, but I slipped when I was getting up and... well..."

Letting out an exasperated breath, her mother takes her hand and teleports them home. Saia knows her mother is irritated with her, so she rushes upstairs to shower and dress as quickly as possible.

She studies her reflection in the mirror. With her white hair and pale green eyes, she looks like her mother, Eris. Being the daughter of a goddess is hard, and stifling.

Hearing her name being called, she hurries downstairs. "Sweetheart, Selene would like to speak to you. Do you want me to stay?" Eris asks. Watching Selene's expression, Saia replies, "No Mama, we're fine."

As Eris walks away, she turns and tells Selene, "Let me know as soon as possible." Now Saia is seriously wondering what all this is about.

"Come sit with me sweetie, we have much to discuss," Selene says as she pats the cushion next to her. Saia sits beside her and takes her hand. "What's going on auntie, you sound so serious."

Studying her niece for a moment, Selene asks, "What do you think of soul mates?" Screwing her lips up as she thinks, Selene runs her finger across Saia's lips to stop her, telling her it will mess up her beautiful smile.

Saia grins then answers, "You know I always told you I wish I could have one. To have someone made just for me sounds amazing."

Becoming more relaxed now, Selene sits back, then dives right into the story. "You know last year the leaders met regarding the status of our species."

Seeing Saia nodding, she continues, "The gods and goddesses have decided to let our children have their soul mates to help our species prosper and grow. We are continuing interspecies mating as well, so your mother and I would like to send you and Asha to Earth Realm to find your soul mates."

For several moments Saia just stares at her aunt until her words register, then she flies into her arms, literally. They both go over the back of the sofa and land with a thump, with Saia squealing in happiness and Selene trying to cover her ears.

Eris rushes into the room not knowing what the commotion is. Seeing the outcome, she pinches her daughter's ear to pull her away. "I'm almost afraid to tell you the rest," Selene laughs.

They both get off the floor and Saia sits between her mother and aunt, vibrating with excitement. This is what she's dreamed of for five long years!

Eris puts her arms around her daughter and hugs her gently. "There is much you need to know. You must follow the rules, otherwise the gods will bring you back. Understand?"

Nodding vigorously, she pays close attention. "You cannot use magic around humans. You may only shift into your fairy or wolf away from human eyes. You will be mated to a very special wolf, and I will give you a wolf of your own before you go. You and Asha, along with your mates, will help others find their soul mates. I will put you close to where you need to be, but you must find each other."

Saia thinks for a second then asks, "How will I know that he is my mate?" Selene smiles and replies, "He will smell heavenly to you, his touch will send tingles through you, and when your eyes meet your souls will connect." Saia lets out a dreamy sigh then giggles and her mother hugs her tighter.

Selene continues, "You know how to fight without magic and there will be times you have to, but now we will give you your wolf and learn to fight with her. Are you ready?"

Saia leaps in the air and zips out the back door. Eris shakes her head and laughs, "I guess that's a yes!" While waiting for Asha, Saia begins listing in her head all the things she knows about Earth Realm.

"Saia you have to pay attention!" Feeling guilty Saia mumbles, "Sorry auntie." Eris chuckles as Selene repeats her instructions, "Lie on that blanket with your eyes closed and try to clear your mind. I'll give you a minute to get situated."

Saia and Asha lie down and breathe deeply. Suddenly, they feel warmth starting with their feet and moving to their heads.

After several minutes, Saia hears a voice inside her head 🐺 Hello beautiful fairy. My name is India, but I prefer Indy. 🧚‍♀️ Wow, hi Indy. This is so cool! My name is Ela and I'm Saia's fairy. We get to share!

Saia starts laughing, standing up and dancing around Selene. Feeling another being inside is strange but amazing! "Okay, calm down. We have to get you through your shift, and Eris has to teach Asha magic as soon as possible, so let's do it!"

Eris leads Asha to the training fields while Selene takes Saia to the forest. Instructing Saia to meditate, Selene sits beside her to ease her transition.

After a half hour, Saia's bones start snapping into position as she cries out in pain. Indy pushes through, and after 15 minutes, a beautiful snow-white wolf stands in place of Saia. Shaking out her fur, she steps to Selene for some petting then trots to the stream beyond the trees to have a look.

The reflection is of a magnificent wolf with pale green eyes, thick white fur, and standing at least 6 feet at the shoulder. Taking a quick drink of water, she runs back to Selene for more instructions.

🧚‍♀️ You are stunning Indy. I'm so glad you're my new partner! 🐺 Thank you sweet fairy, I feel the same.

Selene scratches Indy's ears and says, "I want you to get to know each other well, as you are now one. I know you can both fight, just make sure you take care of each other. You can always call on me for help. Now go explore and learn."

With that, Indy takes off through the trees while Saia chats with them.

🧝‍♀️ Auntie says we will find our mate when we go to Earth realm and I'm so excited. Have you been to Earth realm? 🐺 I have, but it was 50 years ago. I'm sure things have changed, but the biggest difference is the humans. You will need to learn and be careful. They don't know about supernaturals.

🧝‍♀️ Will we have to get a job there? 🐺 It depends on how fast we find our mate. Hopefully, we find him really fast. I don't want to work a human job.

🧝‍♀️ Is it very different from here? 🐺 In some ways. They have cars that are fast, and roads are paved. They don't seem to take care of nature like here.

🧚‍♀️ That's sad. What are the humans like? 🐺 Some are nice, some are not, just like here. They don't know about supernaturals and that's why you must be careful. They can't know, because they would fear us, and they kill what they fear.

🧝‍♀️ Okay I think I have the hang of this. 🐺 Would Ela be able to cast a spell to have clothes when we change? Otherwise, when I shift back, you'll be naked.

🧚‍♀️ Well that's good to know! How embarrassing! 🐺 Not for shifters sweetie. We grow up with it normally, so shifters don't really care about nudity. But I know you didn't grow up with it, so I thought I should tell you.

🧚‍♀️ I appreciate that. I'm sure I could get used to it, but it may take some time. I'll do a spell now and we'll see if it works. Are you ready to go home? It's almost dinner time. 🐺 Sure sweetie, let's go home and you can learn how to shift from each form.

Running back is exhilarating and Saia realizes how much she loves being a wolf. Once they reach the house, Indy teaches Saia how to shift back to her form.

Luckily the spell works, and she is fully clothed. Then one quick shift from Saia to Indy to Ela. Everything goes smoothly, so after practicing a few times, they all go in to eat. After dinner, Selene sits down with Asha and Saia to discuss the move to a new realm.

"I want you to help each other as much as possible. Saia, you may face some challenges because of your height, but you may grow a little taller after having received your wolf. Don't worry about it, just know you are small for an adult by human and shifter standards. You may be small, but you are fierce!"

Saia and Asha start giggling and teasing each other, considering Asha is almost a foot taller at 5'10" compared to Saia's 4'11". Thinking of her earlier conversation with Indy, Saia asks, "Will we need to get jobs?"

Chuckling at her cousin, Asha informs her, "Mom set us up an apartment, along with a bank account. We should be fine for a little while. If you want to get a job you can, but I'm gonna be looking for my mate!" Saia laughs and agrees with her.

Unable to think of any more questions for now, Saia decides to get a good night's sleep, so that she's rested for practice tomorrow.

Stepping into the moonlight, Selene sits for her dreamwalk with Dominic. She tells him all she can about his fierce little mate, then lets him know what area she'll be living in when she gets there.

Selene smiles to herself, knowing this pair will be exactly what the supernaturals need to flourish.
