Facing Unexpected Turns
From the moment we open our eyes, we're handed a gift, and its called free will. It's like being given a blank canvas and told, "Go on, paint your masterpiece!" We set off, excited by the endless possibilities, certain that each choice will lead us to some glorious outcome. Yet, as we walk, we notice that our decisions don't always play out the way we expect. Sometimes we paint ourselves into a corner, splatter some paint on our clothes, or end up looking at the mess and wondering, “Why did this happen?”
We start to question the source of it all. God, why are you letting this happen? we ask, like He’s the one who signed us up for this wild ride. But here’s the twist: He did. He handed us free will, knowing full well that we’d make mistakes. But He didn’t just give us the ability to choose. He gave us the ability to learn from the choices we make. The truth is, we’re not always meant to get everything right on the first try.
The real question isn’t why we fall, it’s what we do with the fall. Do we lay there, defeated, or do we get up and try again? It’s like learning to walk. You stumble, fall, cry a little, but that’s how you learn to stand. God lets us trip because He knows we’ll find our balance. He allows the pain because He’s teaching us how to heal. And let’s be honest, would we ever learn anything if everything just worked out perfectly? Life wouldn’t be nearly as interesting (or as humbling).
Eventually, we start seeing the bigger picture.. how each choice, no matter how small, has led us to exactly where we are. The heartbreaks, the wrong turns, the moments of doubt, each of them is part of the story. And suddenly, we get it. We look back at the mess we once saw and realize it wasn’t a mess at all, it was a lesson, beautifully imperfect.
Funny how, in the end, we come to acknowledge that every twist, every turn, was meant to happen. Not because God is cruel, but because He loves us enough to let us make our own choices and experience the consequences. He didn’t shield us from the pain because He knows it’s in the struggle that we find strength. It’s in the hurt that we learn resilience. It’s in the questions that we discover faith.
And then, there’s that moment. The one where we finally look at our life and say, "This was supposed to happen." The confusion fades, the pieces fall into place, and we realize we’ve been on the path all along, even when we didn’t know it. We weren’t meant to be perfect. We were meant to learn, to grow, and to find our way back to love, because that’s the ultimate lesson.
So, yes, we laugh at ourselves. It took us how long to get this? But maybe that’s the point. God knew all along we’d figure it out. And He loved us enough to let us figure it out ourselves. Because the greatest gift of all isn’t that everything goes according to plan. It’s that we learn to embrace the journey, the bumps, bruises, and all.
So, when the world feels heavy and the path ahead unclear, remember this, your story is unfolding exactly as it should. Every tear, every heartache, every moment of doubt is a brushstroke on the canvas of who you’re becoming. You’re not alone, even in your quietest hours. So, take a deep breath, close your eyes, and let the rhythm of life carry you forward. You’re stronger than you know, and the best is yet to come.
