Chapter 1
AIIMS Jodhpur, 7:30 AM
The hostel corridor buzzed with the usual morning chaos—slamming doors, rustling notes, and frantic calls about missed alarms. Nandini walked swiftly past the commotion, her white lab coat folded over one arm and a half-eaten apple in the other. Her short hairs in a small ponytail swung with each step, her eyes focused ahead. The second-year radiologic technology student had no time for drama today.
“babe! Wait up!” Trisha’s voice echoed down the hallway.
Nandini paused, just long enough for her best friend and roommate to catch up, breathless and adjusting her clothes Trisha Rajawat was everything Nandini wasn’t—vibrant, impulsive, and heir to a lifestyle lined in silk and privilege. Yet, they clicked.
“I swear this biophysics prof is trying to kill us with early classes,” Trisha groaned.
Nandini smirked. “You wouldn’t suffer if you didn’t sleep at 2 AM scrolling Instagram reels.”
Trisha rolled her eyes. “Reels are therapy. Especially when your royal brother breathes down your neck every weekend.”
“Speaking of,” Nandini raised an eyebrow, “is Prince Amrit visiting again?”
Trisha groaned louder. “Yes. He’s coming to Jodhpur for some CEO conference. And you know him—he’ll probably helicopter into the hostel to ‘check if I’m alive.’”
Nandini chuckled but said nothing more. She’d seen Amrit Rajawat once—from a distance. Tall, poised, intimidating in his tailored navy suit and quiet authority. Her life had no place for men like that. Or so she thought.

Udaipur, 5 Years Ago
Nandini stood in a dimly lit kitchen, pressing dough into a plate while her elder sister prepped for an engagement ceremony. Her parents fluttered around, fussing over gold bangles and guest lists.
“Nandini, get the extra mithai boxes from the fridge,” her mother ordered without looking up.
“ohk mummy”
No smile. No “thank you.” Just silence. It had always been that way. As the middle child, Nandini was expected to be invisible—useful, obedient, and quiet.
Her father only had eyes for Diya—her elder sister, the perfect daughter. Younger brother Aarav was the pampered one. Nandini existed in the margins.
But even in the silence, she had found purpose. She studied. She dreamt. She applied to AIIMS Jodhpur and got in with a scholarship. That letter had been the first time she saw pride in her father’s eyes.

Present Day
The lecture hall filled quickly. Nandini found her usual seat, flipping open her notes. Trisha slipped in beside her, whispering something about coffee later.
Minutes into the lecture, Nandini’s phone buzzed.
Trisha: Bro wants to take us out for dinner. U in?
Nandini: Me? Why?
Trisha: Says he’s tired of hotel food. And I don’t want to go alone. Come on, it'll be chill.
Nandini hesitated. She didn’t like unexpected detours. But she also couldn’t say no to Trisha’s pleading eyes.
Nandini: Fine. One hour. That’s it.
She had no idea that dinner would change the trajectory of her life
