Chapter 1

𝓛𝓸𝓻𝓮𝓷𝔃𝓸

The city was a beast that never slept. Skyscrapers clawed at the sky, car horns screamed through the streets, and somewhere in the distance, a siren wailed—a symphony of chaos that made the world keep spinning.

Lorenzo Moretti stepped out of his sleek, black Rolls Royce, his sharp Italian leather shoes hitting the pavement with the precision of a man who owned everything he walked on.

Dressed in an impeccable black suit, the fabric molded to his frame like it had been stitched onto his skin, he was a god among men—feared, respected, and utterly untouchable. His silver watch glinted under the morning sun, and when he adjusted the cufflinks on his expensive Versace shirt, they gleamed like they belonged to royalty. Because in this world?

He was the closest thing to a king.

His men, always a step behind, moved like shadows—silent, watching, waiting. They knew their boss. They knew his temper. And they knew that one wrong step could be their last.

But Lorenzo wasn’t paying attention to them. His mind was already focused on his day—a meeting with suppliers, a phone call to handle a loose end, a reminder that someone needed to be put in the ground before the week was up.

His life was calculated. Controlled. Ruthless.

Until 𝘩𝘦𝘳.

It happened in an instant—a blur of soft warmth, the scent of vanilla and jasmine, and then… disaster.

𝘉𝘢𝘮.

𝘚𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘵.

𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘪𝘳.

Hot coffee splashed against his chest, seeping into his $5,000 shirt, staining it beyond repair. A collective gasp echoed from his men, hands inching toward their weapons, their instincts honed to eliminate threats before they even fully formed.

But Lorenzo?

He didn’t move.

Because the moment he looked down, his breath caught in his throat.

She was standing there, wide-eyed, hands trembling, lips parted in horror.

A girl. A woman.

𝘕𝘰—𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭.

Long, dark lashes framed her doe-like brown eyes, shimmering with guilt and panic. Her delicate features looked untouched by the world’s filth, her lips soft, pink, and trembling slightly. Porcelain skin. Small frame. A warmth in her gaze that didn’t belong on these streets.

She was innocence in its purest form, standing before him, clutching an empty coffee cup with shaky fingers.

And he?

Lorenzo Moretti—The Reaper, the most feared man in the world—forgot how to fucking breathe.

“𝘖𝘩 𝘮𝘺 𝘎𝘰𝘥…” her voice was barely a whisper, like she was afraid he’d explode right there. “𝘐’𝘮 𝘴𝘰 𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘺…”

His men were waiting. Watching. Expecting blood.

But he silenced them all with a single flick of his wrist.

And then—Lorenzo did something he never did.

He smiled.

Oh God.

𝘐 𝘳𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦’𝘴 𝘥𝘢𝘺.

𝘕𝘰, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘰𝘯𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘢𝘯.

He was terrifying. And beautiful. Tall, broad, built like something carved out of stone. His dark, messy hair contrasted sharply against the sharp cut of his suit, and his jawline—God help her—could probably cut glass.

And his eyes?

Dark. Piercing. Looking at her like she was a puzzle he suddenly wanted to solve.

She swallowed, heart hammering against her ribs.

“I—I didn’t mean to—”

“You spilled my coffee,” he murmured, his voice deep, rich, and silk-smooth.

She flinched. “I—Yes. I did. I—”

“You owe me one.”

Her heart stopped. “I… what?”

“A coffee.” He tilted his head. A slow, lazy smirk curved his lips, but there was something dangerous about it. “You’re buyin’ me another one.”

She stared at him, baffled.

What kind of man reacted like this after getting burned with boiling hot coffee?

She expected yelling. Anger. Not this… strange, almost amused patience.

“I—Okay?” she whispered.

His smirk deepened. “Good girl.”

The café was small, quiet—a place he normally would never step foot into. Too… soft. Too normal. But with her? It felt like stepping into a different world.

She sat across from him, biting her lip as she fiddled with her coffee cup, clearly unsure what to say. She didn’t know who he was. That much was obvious.

And Lorenzo liked it.

“You nervous, angel?”

She glanced up, startled. “N-No.”

He chuckled. “Liar.”

She flushed, looking away.

𝘍𝘶𝘤𝘬, 𝘴𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘰 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵. 𝘛𝘰𝘰 𝘱𝘶𝘳𝘦.

She had no idea that across from her sat a man who ran an empire drenched in blood.

For the first time in his life, Lorenzo wanted to keep something—someone—clean.

He leaned forward, voice dropping to a murmur. “What’s your name, angel?”

She hesitated before whispering, “Sofia.”

Sofia.

𝘏𝘦𝘭𝘭.

Even her name sounded like something soft, something meant to be whispered in the dark.

Lorenzo exhaled slowly, gripping his cup tighter.

Because in that moment, one thing became terrifyingly clear.

Sofia wasn’t just another girl.

She was about to become his greatest obsession.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters.
