Chapter 1

RUBY

Looking over my shoulder at Kent, I smiled. His eyes stayed on me and gave me a smile.

We have been dating for the last three weeks, and this was our fifth date—crazy golf.

Looking down, I lined my ball to the hole, which was based with an opening and closing clown mouth. I got into position and hit it. Moving back slightly, I watched the clowns mouth open just in time for my ball to get into the hole.

The corners of my lips curled up as I looked to Kent, who was grinning. “Well done,” he said, staring back. “You did better than me.”

I said nothing. Kent had his shot, and the clown didn’t open his mouth for him, which made his ball fly back at us. We laughed, and I even thought he could try again since there were not many people around us.

Kent managed to get it in the second time around.

“Let’s get to the last hole,” he said, holding out his hand to me.

I smiled and took it.

We walked over to the last hole of the night, which was a windmill. Kent got into position, while I watched him.

My mind wondered over the last three weeks with this man. We were both set up on a blind date, which was a coffee date. Our friends, Jake and Sally thought we would hit it off with one another and they were both right.

Kent and I got along well and had so much in common with each other. Both work with computers. Well, I am writer, and I use computers. Whereas Kent knows how to fix them.

The way the man talks about his company is intriguing. He acts like it is his child, but I guess it would be classed as a child if he had created it. I am the same with the books I have published. All of them are my children, even the possessive alpha ones.

Kent knows I write stories since Sally told him, but not what they are about. I am nervous to bring up that I write pure smut with a plot, or even without one. I love to make possessive men want women, the way we all want to be craved and have them giving us what we need.

As for Kent, he has been amazing. Organising the dates, taking me places I would never dream of, such as an art gallery where the artist used only spoons to do his work. It was weird but also stunning to see. Some of his pieces were mind blowing.

Another date he took me on was to a winery in the south. We got to have a taste of the fine wines from a friend he knew. That was probably the best since wine is my favourite after time and got to watch the most stunning sunset before heading to a pizza place for the food to soak up all the wine.

A hike and a picnic were another, with breathtaking views.

This man knew how to win a girl over, but there was one thing that has gotten me worried—he hasn’t tried to seduce me. We have kissed and I mean a lot that he leaves me panting and wanting more.

Kent is also hot as sin, even though he doesn’t seem to notice. He is all business and nothing else. The man is a walking piece of muscle in a suit and even had some women stare at him while I am with him.

There have been countless times I have been feeling slightly jealous at the attention, but Kent never faltered, his eyes would only be on me and no one else. I had his undivided attention all the time.

“Ruby, it’s your turn,” Kent called out, which pulled me back to the present and looked back at him where his eyes bore back.

Moving closer to him, I got into position when I felt something land on my head. Water. Fuck, no not now.

Getting into position, I swung and hit the ball when the rain decided to come down heavy.

“Ahh...” I said, scrunching up my nose and shoulders trying not to let the water go down my top, but it wasn’t helping.

Kent grinned and looked around before he motioned me to follow him. “Over there,” he said, looking toward an enormous tree. “We can stand under there and wait till it clears.”

Kent and I made a run for it and went under the tree, which barely covered us. I stood there, trying to wrap my jacket around me tighter but it wasn’t helping. I was soaked, and not in a pantie kind of way.

Damn it, I sound like horny woman.

Well, I was. Earlier today, I had to write a spicy scene and was so engrossed in it that I made myself horny and have been like this ever since. Also, Kent hasn’t helped either since he was looking hotter than normal.

Damn, lady parts needed to calm down.

A hand on my shoulder, pulled me back again which made me look to see Kent looking at me concerned. “That’s not the first time on this date you have been far away. Is there anything wrong?”

That question took me by surprise. I didn’t realise I was doing it.

“Sorry,” I said, placing my hand on his. “I have a deadline on a book that is coming out and it’s been on my mind a lot.”

That part was true, even though part of my mind kept going elsewhere, but mainly on him. I wanted him to tell me he wanted me, to be his girlfriend. Establish what we are, or better yet, fuck me so damn hard that I forget my name.

Well, the last part may be the one I want more than anything, but I wasn’t going to tell him that.

Kent looked at me with a stare that was unreadable until he spoke. “I didn’t know.”

He let out a breath and looked over to the side, where his car was parked. “How about we call this a night and head back.”

I didn’t want this date to end, never did but the weather wasn’t the best.

“Sure,” I stated, looking over. “Shall we make a run for it?”

“Okay. Race you,” he said with a smile. “One, two...”

Kent bolted out into the rain, leaving me standing with my mouth hanging over. “Hey!” I shouted, running after him.

God, I wish I could punish him.
