Short story
Long ago, beneath the ocean there lay an isolated yet beautiful kingdom called 'The Abyss Trench' , home and a safe sanctuary for the sirens. Abyss Trench is something that was hidden away from the human world. There lived a curious yet beautiful siren ,one of her 7 sisters named Lyra. Full name Lyra Vespara Nyxmare, whose beauty resembled a relatively young Aishwarya Rai's and had this prophecy that she would become the most powerful siren ever in existence.
Lyra's Power consists of - "sonic hypnosis, mind control , aquatic abilites , shapeshifting, weather Manipulation, healing, Telepathy, Illusion creation , supernatural allure" and "tidal influence, water Manipulation , swimming speed , underwater breathing , echolocation are her aquatic abilites." She was always curious about human life and how it would feel to be up there and experience it.
The day came sooner then ever and one night , There was this luxurious ship that had drowned due to the mistake of the sailor and the prince of human kingdom named Cassian Vale was drowning and As Lyra was swimming as usual , she saw this scene and saved the prince and took his unconscious body and kept it on the sand and waited for him to wake up and she had this hint of concern and curiosity on her face as she waited.
As Cassian woke up , his heart fluttered looking at Lyra and asked "who are you and where am I?"* Cassian glanced around and couldn't keep his eyes off Lyra and then Lyra Replies with "i am Lyra and you are on the land , you were drowning and I saved you."* After hearing this, Cassian looked at her with Awe and then Cassian thanked her and as soon as Lyra was about to leave , Cassian gently held her wrist and in an unusually soft tone , he asked hesitantly , "stay?"* Lyra, seeing this agreed and sat beside him and they started talking and getting to know each other.
After 4 days, Lyra confessed that she is a siren and Little did the Siren know that Cassian is a siren hunter and Prince that was on a mission to kill her as he grew up hating sirens and the hunger from power that his king status provided and Cassian's reaction to this revelation was oddly calm and mock accepted it and they hugged it out in a romantic way. After that night, Cassian left in a mysterious manner.
The next day , Lyra realized that love is a fragile thing. When Cassian returned to his kingdom, fear and duty consumed him. He betrayed her, condemning her as a monster when his people demanded her death. Soldiers hunted her, slashing her fins, burning her skin with iron. Dragged from the ocean, she tasted the cruelty of humanity—the same creatures she had once longed to understand.
Dying, abandoned, and seething with rage, she called upon the abyss. It answered. The ocean, ancient and wrathful, marked her as its chosen one, cursing her voice with a new power: not just to lure men, but to break them. With every note she sang, she could whisper madness into their minds, make them see their worst nightmares, drown in their own delusions.
In these 5 years , Lyra’s vengeance was neither swift nor merciful—it was divine. On the night of Cassian Vale’s coronation anniversary, beneath a crimson moon, she emerged from the sea not as a broken lover but as a wrathful goddess cloaked in storm and shadow. With her power of sonic hypnosis , she commanded the guards to let her in and the guards obeyed. As the palace crumbled and the tides rose to reclaim what the crown had stolen, Lyra confronted Cassian atop his throne—his face pale, his lies crumbling like sand.
Lyra demands on why Cassian chose to betray her and Cassian in his trembling yet feared tone revealed that his betrayal was born from a twisted cocktail of fear, ambition, and the crushing weight of legacy and Cassian narrates this incident when he returned back to the kingdom and the incident was , after Lyra saved him, he was met not with gratitude but suspicion. His advisors warned him: a prince consorting with a siren would be seen as weak, cursed, even unholy. The nobles feared her power. The priests called her an abomination. And worst of all, his father—the dying king—gave him a choice: destroy the creature who had “bewitched” him, or be disowned and cast out.
Cassian, terrified of losing his birthright, silenced his heart and chose the throne. To preserve his reputation, he fabricated a tale of captivity and dark magic, painting Lyra as a monster who had seduced and nearly drowned him. He led a brutal hunt to prove his loyalty to the crown, offering her death in exchange for his crown.
After hearing this , her soften just for while and regains her ‘evil’ persona and composure and stood in front of him and used her powers of weather manipulation and created lighting bolts that ended up killing Cassian and Lyra looks at his unconscious dead body and feels a hint of peace and sadness and she in turn became the new ruler of the kingdom.
In the end, it wasn’t hatred that drove him—but cowardice. He loved her. But he loved power more. And Lyra never forgot.
