Bad Beginning

June was working in the busy kitchen while on the phone with her mom, beads of sweat went down her forehead as she cooked a steak table 7 ordered. Everything has been more hectic lately, the new boss is an absolute piece of shit. He's not even qualified for this job, he just got it because his grandfather own it until he retired.

"I don't even know how he got the job. You'd think they'd at least make him take a test before giving him the goddamn job," June complains to her mother.

“I told you that being a chef was a bad idea; you should've been a therapist."

"Mom, I don't think it matters. There's always going to be something wrong with any job I pick—that's just a part of life, whether I want it to be or not."

June continued cooking as she hung up and put her phone in her pocket. As she starts to fry the vegetables, all her surroundings go blank. The only things she can hear is her spatula scraping on the bottom of the pan, people cutting carrots beside her, boiling water, and the sizzling of the steak.

She starts thinking about she's doing here, working at a job she loves, with a boss she hates.

She has more than enough money to make her own restaurant, and be her own boss. But that would be a lot of work and effort, besides, this is a comfortable job and she's all about stability and comfort. So why fix something that's not broken?

She closes her eyes tightly and thinks about her options. When she opens them, she sees her coworker, Jason. He has slicked-back black hair, gray eyes, pale skin, and always wears a smile.

"What do you want?" June says, a little annoyed he interrupted her thinking.

"The boss wants to see you,"

"What now?"

"I don't anyone I said this, but there's a rumor that Mr boss, has a bit of a crush on you,"

"That's a disgusting rumor, that shouldn't be repeated,"

"Lighten up, June, it's just a rumor,"

"You shouldn't be spreading rumors! Especially not about... that,"

"Fine, fine, I'll stop, but you really should get in his office,"

"Fine, make sure the steak nor vegetables burn, got it?

"I know how to cook, that's why I work here,"

"Whatever,"

June takes off her apron and heads to her boss's office, Mr. Johnson. She opens the door and steps inside. Looking around at the dark room, she wipes the sweat from her forehead.
