Chapter One
Alice
After getting off work, I only wanted to sit on my bed and relax, but people were blowing up my phone. I groaned and looked at it.

I groaned and started getting dressed. I hated dresses. I threw on my button-up and pants before grabbing my hat and heading outside. I leaned on the post and texted James. The man I was hoping was my mate. He was the next beta of the pack.

Sighing, I stuffed my phone in my pocket and walked to Mia's car. I got in quickly. "Hey."
"Hey. What's wrong? We just found out that the pack got invited to the biggest party of the year, and you're not excited."
"You know Parties aren't my thing. Becides who would want to go pretend to be formal when you work on a Ranch." I looked at her.
She looked at my outfit. "Well. It's only a couple of hours, and then we're in and out. No meeting anyone. Just have a few drinks, party then boom. We're gone."
I groaned and looked out the window.
"Lighten up Alice. It's one dress. It's not like you're getting married or something. Just try on a few dresses with me?"
"Sure."
We drove for a bit before pulling up to the shops. I got out and adjusted my hat.
She walked over and nudged me. "Come on!" She was so excited. I smiled. I followed her inside and looked around. I grumbled and followed her, looking at dresses.
She threw one at me and smiled. "Here. Go try this one on."
"Look. One dress, then I have to go meet up with James."
She looked at me. Her eyes flickered. I knew she wasn't going to be able to lie to me. "Alice..." She started. "James found his mate."
I froze, holding up the dress she gave me. What? But we were each other's mate.. I was so sure of it.
"Alice??" She put a hand on mine. I shook my head. "I need to go."
She frowned and nodded. "Pick me out a dress. I'm going to that party." I said. Her smile immediately picked up.
I left the store and started running. I could feel my claw piercings through my hands. My eyes got sharper. My wolf was getting out of control. I groaned and ran into downtown, shedding my clothes and shifting. It wasn't odd to see someone shift downtown. It happened a lot.
I ran and ran until I heard my name. Turning my head quickly, I looked over at the person. It was James, standing there looking more worried than I, seen him.
I snarled at him when he got closer. All I wanted to do was bite down on his leg and let him feel the same pain I was feeling.
"Alice. It's me. It's James."
Yeah. I know.. I growled and got low to the ground, getting ready to pounce, when I heard a loud growl. I whimpered and lay on the ground. It was the alpha. He walked over at knelt in front of me, holding out a hand. "Come on, little one, we need to talk."
I sniffled his hand, calming down a bit. I nodded and walked with him. He took me to the bar and up the stairs. He opened a door for me before following me in.
"Alice.."
In a small town like this, everyone knew everyone.
I lay on the ground, not looking at him. He put a robe over me. I quickly shifted back, tightening the robe. I looked away from him. "Alice. I can't have you shifting in the middle of town." I looked at him, confused. "The lycan king and his men are coming here. To see if Clearwater has what it takes to actually attend this ball. They want to make sure that no fun buisness will happen."
"I... I'm sorry. I just lost control of my wolf. It won't happen again."
He nodded. "Good. There are some clothes in the closet. Get dressed and go about your day." He left the room. I nodded and quickly changed into some of his clothes.
As I walked down the street, I just let my mind wander. The man I thought would be my mate was fated to another. My wolf stirred just thinking about it. Hopefully, the Lycans' ball was a good enough distraction.
My phone was going off nonstop. Finally, I just pulled my cochlear out and stuffed it in my pocket. I walked down the street, heading anywhere.
I kept walking until I saw a black car drive past. My jump started jumping up and down. She was extremely excited. I groaned and walked the other way.
After a couple of minutes, I felt someone grab my hand. I spun around and looked at them, not recognizing them, and punched them.
Dixon
She had punched me. Actuallyunched me. I had called for her, asking her to wait, but she acted like she didn't hear me. I rubbed my nose, wiping the blood.
She gasped, realizing how I was, and quickly backed up, bowing quickly. I laughed, amused. "No need for that."
She didn't stop. I raised a brow. She looked up and frowned. She quickly reached into her pocket and pulled something out, putting whatever it was around her ear.
"Your highness. I'm so sorry.." she said. I looked at her. She looked panicked. I put a hand on her shoulder. "It's okay, my Mate."
She froze. "What?"
I looked at her. "You're my mate. And im never letting you go again." I smiled.
She backed up a bit more before running off. I groaned. "Great.." Being a lycan had its perks, but this was a downfall. Would she always run from me?
I ran after her, chasing her down five blocks and to a ranch. She had to know my lycan would scare the animals. I looked around. "Little one." I called. I walked into a barn and listened. Before I could react, she had jumped down from the second floor and pinned me down.
She growled. "What do you want from me?" Her eyes were blue like the ocean, and her blonde hair fell around her shoulders and face. Her hat hit me in the head.
I could easily move her, but I didn't. "you're my mate little one." I smirked.
She growled. "I don't need a mate." She snapped. I growled back. "Then why pin me down. Why even talk to me?"
I flipped us over and held her arms above her head. Goddess, I could get used to having her under me. "You're my mate. i'll never let you go." I growled, losing control of my lycan. She didn't back down. Her eyes flickered, something between fear and lust.
I smirked and let her hands go. She immediately shoved me off and got up. I got up and wrapped my arms around her. "Little one. Let's start over. Please?"
Just having her in my arms was calming my lycan down. "Please. just tell me you're name." I begged.
"The king is begging?" She raised a brow and looked at me.
"Would it help if I told you my name?"
She nodded a bit. Not many people knew my name. I was always called the Lycan King.
I sighed. "My name is Dixon." I looked at her.
"Alice.." She mumbled, a bit annoyed.
This little wolf was going to be a handful, that's for sure.
"I'm allowed to call you by your name?" She asked.
"Only you are, My Alice." I put a hand under her chin. It took everything not to kiss her and calm her right here.
She turned red and fixed her hat. I smiled. I liked knowing I had that effect on her. I grabbed her hand. "Come on. let's get out of this place."
She nods and walked with me.
"Dixon..." she whispered.
"Yes?"
"I... umm. I'm deaf." She muttered.
"So thats why you couldn't hear me earlier." I chuckled. She frowned and looked down. "I don't mean anything by it, Little One." I put a hand on her back. She nodded and fiddled with her hair. I smiled and kissed her hand.
She blushed.
"Now, where shou we go?"
