Enjoyed it
"A story that is a bit different. Thoroughly enjoyed and look forward to the next instalment."
Benighted by Carolynne Nelson
"Hi Evanna! First off — wow. Benighted immediately pulls the reader into a rich, moody world that feels both dangerous and magnetic. Your writing has a natural flow that makes the dark fantasy setting easy to dive into without overwhelming the reader, which is a real strength, especially in fantasy! Navee is such an intriguing protagonist — I love that she starts off isolated and vulnerable, yet you can already sense her inner fire. The idea of an outcast possibly becoming a queen? That's a narrative arc packed with delicious tension and empowerment, and you’ve set it up beautifully. A few things that are working really well: Atmosphere: The dark, slightly gothic mood comes through clearly without being heavy-handed. You paint just enough to let the reader's imagination fill in the edges — a great touch. Character Dynamics: The relationships between characters feel authentic and complex. There’s real chemistry, hidden agendas, and emotional undercurrents building nicely. Emotional Pull: You make us feel Navee's loneliness and hope without over-explaining it — very skillful! Some light feedback to make it even stronger: Scene Pacing: Occasionally, you could linger just a little more on key emotional or tension-heavy moments. Slowing the pace slightly would make dramatic reveals and twists hit even harder. Character Layers: Navee is already fascinating, and deepening her emotional reactions even more (small gestures, body language, micro-thoughts) would make her feel even more alive. Honestly, you’re already doing the hardest things right — building an emotional connection and making readers care what happens next. That's the magic of storytelling. Keep going — you have something really special here! I’m excited to watch Navee's story unfold and see where your beautiful, dark imagination leads. ✨🖤 "
Worth the read
"I loved the first half but the second half didn't seem to mesh with it very well. Too many repetitive words and plot holes to be a completely finished story. However I think it is going to be amazing with a little polishing up. Your writing style is beautiful and kept me engaged even when some of the hiccups and repeat words/scenes would have normally had me DNFing a book I found out in the wild. I can't wait to read the second book and thanks for letting me bata this one. Hope the comments help! "
