He’s dangerous, dominant, and darkly alluring—everything she should run from. But in that one smoldering moment, as their eyes lock and silence falls, she knows her life is about to change. Ace doesn’t forget loyalty. Or betrayal. And he never lets go of what he wants.

Chapter 1

Evaline.

The night was quite chilly today, the harsh wind blew in my face reminding me of my surroundings. I worked in a shabby bar down the road, it was not worth it but when you have two mouths to feed , you don’t mind working in a place like this. My mother married her husband when she was pregnant with my younger siblings Emma and Brian.I don’t know who my father is .My mother told me I was born out of wedlock and the man didn’t care enough  look after me or to marry her, so she left with me .My name is the biggest irony of my life , my fate is very opposite of it( Evaline- the desired child)and here I  was, loved by none . At first I felt sad for her but very soon I realized she was the problem , she is an alcoholic , her second husband left her beacuse of it, at first I thought she would eventually drop it, but soon I realized it will never happen . She did not care whether we had enough food or whether we starved  , I had to look after my siblings and I love them with all my heart , I usually picked up on small jobs like working in a store or home service or cleaning the church ,I would buy us food from that little money . My mother would ask for money for her drinks when I refused for that she would go on calling me names, accusing me of sleeping with boys. I was tired of it, but for my siblings I did it anyways. Our mom passed last month  , though none of us miss her   .With no professional experience and degree you are left with options like these . This was a small town and everybody was familiar with each other .In a place like this rumors spread like  wildfire  ,  the current catching everyone’s attention was that the pastor’s wife was sleeping with none other than the infamous drunkard Philip. Usually I do  not pay any heed to these things but the rumor which raised the hair on the back of my neck was the one I heard as I swept the dirty floor .The customers spoke in hushed voices about the name everyone dreaded of .From them I came to know that he was back .Ace Carter the man who owned every brick of this  of a town was back. He was no good man and knew only the language of cruelty .I sincerely hoped this was just another nonsense rumor .I was on edge since hearing that ,I  quickly finished arranging the wine bottles and made way for my home. Emma and Brian had long gone to sleep , I made some scrambled eggs for myself and ate that with leftover rice and beans. The next day when I woke up I saw Emma and Brian leave for school , they waved me .” we had cereal and milk, bye see you in the evening Eva ” Emma said pressing a kiss to my cheek. “Hurry up, we will miss the bus” Brian shouted running to the bus. I quickly took a shower and ate some porridge as I left for my shift at the convenience   store. The weather was a little better than yesterday .I was tired by the time the shift had ended . It was 8 and I had to hurry up, the bar owner, Richard was a nasty piece of shit always trying to get at me. I reached the bar and changed into the uniform. It was not a comfortable one , if I had the choice I would never wear it again. It was frilly piece of white and pink frock which ended upto my mid thighs with an attached apron with a vice like grip on my breasts .I resumed with my daily routine at the bar ignoring the lewd comments and whistle’s of drunk men . I was  kind of used to it after working here. Suddenly all the commotion drifted into silence and hushed words were spoken.  A trembling Richard  caught my attention, he was speaking with some one.” Please sir , have some mercy on me . I was about to come to you with all the money, the owner spoke. “
