#Story One

And here I stood face to face with the boy I loved. I knew this day would come and eventually one day I would’ve to deal with it.

You see, I’m not a human being. I had to keep many secrets from him and everyone in this world. I couldn’t risk getting caught. I didn’t mean for this to happen, Nick was such a loving boy. He was too good for me. I wanted to tell him that we wouldn’t last, but you see, I was too selfish to let him go.

We stood under the lamppost where we would part ways. This would be our last goodbye.

He removed a stapler from his pocket and punched together a two-page note.

“What is this?” I asked him, too aware of the answer.

You see, I could read minds. I wasn’t an ordinary girl.

“Read it later.” He said, forcing a smile. “It’s quite long.”

At that moment I wanted to apologize for everything. For the lies I told him about me. But if I told him who I truly was, my true nature.... Would he love me the same?

So, I kept quiet.

He removed out something from his pocket and I resisted the urge to ask him what was it?

He removed out a red velvet box. Why?

“Here.” He said, placing it in my hands.

“W-What’s this?” I asked him.

“Accept this as a parting gift.” He replied sadly.

A whirlpool of emotions were swirling inside me and I felt my eyes brimming with tears. His palm caressed my cheek and his thumb carefully wiped the tears that were streaming down my face.

“Please, don’t cry.” His voice was breaking and I struggled not to look at his eyes, fearing I would cry more.

Absently I looked down and my eyes fell on his knee that was bruised. When did he get hurt?

Night was drawing near and I could hear the baboons crying out to others from the trees.

Nick’s home was close to the forest and during the night the forest would come alive. “Open the box.” He told me.

I did immediately and gasped when I saw what was inside. It was a silver bracelet. With tiny moles hanging from the chain. “Wow.” I breathed.

“I knew you would like it.” He said with a cute smile. He knew my likes and dislikes and that was what I loved about him.

The carvings were beautiful and I marveled at the handiwork done by the maker. “It looks expensive.” I said hesitantly and glanced at his face.

“Nah.” He replied, his tongue making a slight clucking sound. “My dad had gifted it to Alice last year but she threw a fit saying that it was too childish. Dad was sad and he left for work. She’s a brat, never understanding the money he spent on it.”

I looked at him with a raised eyebrow, trying to understand what connection it has to the gift.

“So?”

“So, I gave it to you.” he replied. “I knew you loved moles and I thought that it was the best gift I could give you.” he shrugged.

I pulled him towards me and enveloped him in a hug. When we pulled apart, I ruffled his spiky hair.

He smiled.

So, this story was inspired by writing prompts on Wattpad made using ten words: spikey, lamppost, goodbye, whirlpool, carve, baboon, mole, apology, knee, stapler. It was a short story day where I had to make a story using these ten words and it should be 50 to 100 words.
