O Dervish

Poem: “O Dervish”

O dervish, why do you cry

when your heart breaks open like the dawn?

Don’t you know—

Allah is closest to the shattered soul?

You say:

"He beat me like a cloth."

But He only beat away the dust,

not the fabric of your being.

O lover, O sālik,

You were not abandoned in the pain—

You were invited deeper.

You walked through the fire,

yet still said His Name.

You lost everything,

yet held on to Him.

You cried tears of longing,

but they were mortal.

So now let your heart cry—

let it bleed light.

Why mourn the one who dies

and returns to Haqq?

Why mourn the one

who finally went home?

O Muslim, you are already a dervish.

Your prostration is your whirling,

Your zikr is your melody,

Your love for the Prophet ﷺ is your robe,

And your heartbreak—

is the invitation.
