Prologue -- Part 0
(This chapter will mainly give a bit of context to the universe and the MCs backstory.)

Avery Jameson, she had always been interested in the supernatural, and if someone told her she would eventually work with an organisation that exists purely because of the supernatural, she wouldn't believe them.
It had been just a few months since she graduated university top of her class and with PhDs in cryptozoology and biology when she was offered a once in a lifetime job opportunity, a job studying the supernatural and anomalous creatures of the world.
She had just been minding her own business, drinking a coffee in a park. It was mostly empty apart from a few people walking their dogs.
A strange man in a suit and tie sat down on the bench beside her, not saying anything to her. Avery could see that the man was fairly attractive, with short, light brown hair, bright blue eyes, and a pale complexion. Physically, he didn't stand out, but something felt off.
Eventually, he spoke, his voice being quite captivating. "You must be Avery Jameson, correct?"
"Yes. I am," she responded anyways, despite the fact that it's quite creepy how a random man knows her name. "What do you want?"
"I want to offer a job to you." The man just got straight to the point, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a small card, which is black with white writing on. "It's not every day that someone graduates university with as impressive scores as you did. Even when you were in college, you caught the Initiatives attention."
"How did you-?"This caught Avery off guard. She didn't even know what to say in response, but another thought came to her mind. "...What do you mean the Initiative?"
The man handed the card to her. It's a business card. "The Nexus Initiative. An organisation working with the government to protect the public and study anomalous creatures. We would like you to join us as a junior researcher."
Avery took the card in her hand, looking over the front and back.The front had a logo, a 7 pointed star with a red eye in the centre layered over a circle, underneath it says Nexus Initiative. The back had contact information and a bit more information about the Initiative.
The man stood up and spoke, bringing Avery's attention back to him. "You have a week to make your decision. Contact the email on the card if you want to take the offer, and you will get more information."
She nodded and looked back to the card, thinking about it for a moment. She looked up to ask him something, but he was already gone. Odd.
Later that night, she can't get the encounter out of her head, still debating on if she should accept or not. She flips the card over to the side with the Nexus Initiative's logo for what could be the hundredth time. Something about the symbol was drawing her in. What is the significance of the star? Why 7 points?
Without thinking, she sat down at her computer and typed in the email, accepting the life changing offer.
