"The dialogue was strong and I enjoyed reading it! Delphine's best friend death was shocking! I was genuinely surprised to see it was only 2 chapters in this story! The story is well-paced and well-written! 💯 The details with the writing style are outstanding, I did enjoy reading the details about Jonathan and everyone else! 👀 I did enjoy that it was more of a small-town story and the mystery over the crime scene! A nice and suspenseful story to read! 🤩"
Romance and Murder Intriguing Me
"With only two chapters available, it’s still early to fully assess the direction of the story, but Chapter 1 does a good job of establishing the main character and setting, while Chapter 2 begins to pick up the pace. The introduction of a detective romance alongside the unfolding murder scene adds mystery and suspense. The historical setting feels authentic, and the story thoughtfully explores the societal expectations placed on women during that time. I love me a good detective romance, especially with hints of complications that may arise between the characters. I’m curious to see where it shall lead."

The death of Delphine’s best friend is not just shocking, but emotionally impactful, and it instantly shifts the tone in a gripping way. I also loved the chemistry between Delphine and Jonathan Kingsbury. Their first meeting is fun and flirtatious, and the twist that he’s the inspector leading the investigation adds a delicious tension that promises complications ahead. The writing style is engaging, and the pacing is just right—enough time to connect with the characters before the plot thickens. What I disliked was minor: I would’ve liked a bit more internal reaction from Delphine immediately after the onstage tragedy. It was a powerful moment that could’ve benefited from a deeper emotional pause before moving forward. Still, it doesn’t take away from the overall impact. I’d recommend this book to readers who enjoy cozy mysteries, small-town drama, and slow-burn romance with a twist of suspense. "
