Chapter 1
The rain didn’t stop, like the sadness in Sarah’s heart. Her hair was wet as she stood by Kiara’s grave. The wet dirt reminded her that Kiara was really gone. Kiara, her best friend, was dead.
Kiara had always been full of life, a happy, bold person in their quiet town. Sarah remembered all the things they planned, the secrets they shared at night, and how close they were. But now, they were apart.
It started with Mr. Robison, their English teacher. He was strict and held grudges. One time, Kiara saw him smoking in the janitor’s room. He almost lost his job because of it, and he wanted to keep it a secret. Kiara told some other students.
When Mr. Robison found out what Kiara had said, he decided to hurt her. In front of the whole class, he told everyone that Kiara’s father had been in jail. Kiara never hid this, but she didn’t talk about it much either. Mr. Robison wanted to make people think badly of Kiara.
It worked. People started to treat Kiara differently. They whispered about her and said mean things. She was left out and judged. Then, things got worse. Someone said Kiara killed the school’s cat. There was nothing to prove this, but people believed it anyway.
Sarah tried to stick up for her friend, but no one listened. Their town, usually so quiet, was full of anger. Kiara couldn’t take it.
Then, she was found dead. She was near the edge of town, with a knife wound in her stomach. The police didn’t look into it very much. Kiara’s parents didn’t fight for justice. They just moved away. Sarah was left alone with her sadness and questions.
At the funeral, as the rain poured down, Sarah looked at Kiara’s coffin. It had the white lilies that Kiara loved on it. Sarah felt a strong, wild sadness, and it turned into a hard anger. It wasn’t just sadness anymore; it was a need to get even.
“I promise you, Kiara,” Sarah said quietly in the rain. “I will get revenge. I will find out what happened, and those who hurt you will pay.” It was a promise. From that moment on, it’s what she lived for.
