Sinkhole
"James falls into a sinkhole and transmutes into his younger self, but with adult knowledge intact. This allows his rerun but alternate life to unfold against a background of pithy, memorable, unique scene-settings like the sky: blue as a promise you shouldn’t believe. The chapters use a rapid machine gun writing style like a ticking clock or maybe a bomb, that matches life, the present moment never stops or holds, the second-hand speeds, speeds forward, even if you know where ‘the shadows will fall.’ Young James' acerbity is deliciously disconcerting because he’s caught in the war of knowing future events as they occur in real time. Does Fate linger patiently? The text requires editing to remove overused and clichéd phrases, which occasionally distract from fast-paced, high-quality storytelling."
