ROAD TO JUSTICE

Sirens blarred from a distance. A yellow tape had been encircled around a dumping area.A womans body was found mutilated and tortured,blood was all over her face.Nicholas arrived at the scene the officer on the look out let him through .He crouched near the body examining its state and its surroundings trying to decipher whether he could make out what had transpired.

'Hey I see you are early.What do we have here?'Sebastian announced his arrival .He surveyed the scene his detective instincts kicking in.'I know this woman ,though her badly bruised face doesn't give much she still seems familiar.'Nicholas announced.

'Okay'Sebastian said skeptically with a smirk on his face, clearly not believing his partner .This was not the first time Nicholas said some odd though he did not judge him since this was one of the quirks of his intelligent detective skills that helped him close cases.Nicholas went on with his observation dismissing his partners comments.He quickly wore his gloves and reached inside the pockets of the woman's jacket.He found a bloodied note.He was swift to look into it eager to see if a clue was left to jumpstart the case.

The note had an address Nicholas was not familiar with it.he questioned Sebastian but he too did not know the place.He looked at the note then in mid air wheels were working in his brain working out a theory on what could have transpired.One thing he had known for sure was that she was murdered else where then the corpse was dumped in a way to keep it hidden but the culprits did not do a good enough job.Judging by the place it was found and the state it was found they were in a hurry.

As Nicholas was busy in his mind Sebastian tried so hard to hold a stoic face hoping no one noticed the graze near his left eye and his stressed deamenor.They finally went back to the office to delve deeper into the case.The woman was identified as Alisa Jane she was a journalist who enjoyed uncovering crimes that took place in the shadows.Nicholas thought the name was familiar but he just could not place from where he had heard it.She had succesfully exposed drug dealers,human trafficers,illegal poachers and corrupt deals among large companies in the country.

Seemingly many people had a reason to hurt her but it was meaningless since it would give the suspects unwanted attention from the police judging by the spotlight she had set on them.Nicholas thought to himself that this had not been a case of revenge but to hide something ,the question was what.Going through the suspect list mainly consisting of people she had exposed some were in jail serving massive sentences.They were not quite out of the list but they did not seem like direct suspects .He and Seb decided to give a visit to her family and roomate.

The first stop was at her parents.Nicholas analysed them silently as he watched their each and every subtle behavior .Sebastian did most of the questioning.when he asked if Alison had mentioned receiving threats from anyone,Nicholas noticed her mother freeze but quickly masked it away as if she did not just remember something.without further thought Nicholas decided to voice his thoughts.

'You know something,'he said facing Mrs.Kariuki.She was skeptical like a deer caught in headlights.Three pairs of eyes were on her waiting for her to deny .She tried to form a somewhat statement but she was left tongue tied.She finally sighed with teary eyes she mentioned a moment when her daughter came in the house while she visited them sometime last month walking hurriedly in the worse and the first thing she did was look out the window.

'I questioned her about it but she shrugged it off and would never go into further detail mentioning that it was related to work and we knew how that went,'as she sniffled,'I wish i could have been more intruding then maybe she would still be alive.'

After a few more minutes of questioning the detectives saw no need to go any further.They later visited the roommate.She was a mess.Her eyes were puff and her hair was disheveled judging by the amount of times she ran her hands through it.The detectives questioned her or rather Sebastian,Nicholas only listened and observed ,it did not take him long to realise that Monica was hiding something.Something she was guilty off.He waited for her to calm down as she drank a glass of water to regain her composure then he let out the cat out of the bag.

'Your guilty of something,'he voiced out nonchalantly.

Monica could not believe her ears.'Excuse me what are you trying to imply?'Her voice was laced in anger,'my friend slash roommate just died and you have the audacity of coming at me instead of busying yourself to catch the crook that did this!'She was almost going to explode.

Nicholas did not flinch ,he ignored the dissaproveing looks he was receiving from them .He looked into her eyes the deception clear as day in them.He wasn't having the distraught act she was showing.'You can either tell us the truth now or we can rule you as apossible suspect,'Nicholas wasn't bluffing he meant every word.

Fear flashed in her eyes but she quickly masked it.'Idon't know what you are talking about ,'she quickly defended herself .Her defensiveness took Sebastian aback,now he started to see what his partner meant not to say that he didn't think his partner was a jerk sometimes but in their line of work they needed to always get straight to the point in order to find answers.

'Speak!'That was a comand from Sebastian.Nicholas visibly smirked seeing the support he was getting.Monica had no choice ,at this point she was completely backed into a corner.The guilt visiblely consumed her and her eyes welled up.

'It was three weeks ago, Alisa had gone to her parents house for the weekend ,she would be back by Sunday evening.At the time I was planning to go on a date with a man named Jake.That Friday night we discussed a lot of topics during our date then I brought up Alisa and he seemed to take a sudden interest in her which I didn't think to be too serious. Then after the first week of dating he once droppped me home. Alisa was home at the time,he took a liking to her.Later that night she mentioned that Jake gave her a bad vibe but i shrugged it off.Last week when Alisa mentioned she was off to her undercover job Jake also mentioned that he would be busy for the week I didn't think it to be odd then but now it seemed pretty suspicious.Then Jake called last night saying that we are over since something came up and he had to put his full attention to it and now my bestfriend is dead,'she cried softly.

Nicholas was already dialing his phone to the office to search for a man named Jake Kirimi.Sebastian on the otherhand consoled the crying woman prying further to see if there was any added information.They were back on the road towards the office when Nicholas got a call ,Jake had been spotted making a run towards the border. Police were notified the description of his car and to put up road blocks. In Nakuru police had just gotten the news and they were on the look out. They were keen not to let the criminal escape.
