Prologue
First, there was darkness — thick and all-encompassing, filling every thought.
There was no sound, no memory. Only a sense of suspension, hovering somewhere between dream and reality. She existed in a void, surrounded by nothing.
Then came the light.
Faint images flickered through her mind, like shadows smudged by time. Faces she didn’t recognise. Voices she couldn’t match any name. The clash of steel, screams, the thunder of hooves on hardened earth. War.
Pain.
Her eyes opened suddenly, wide with terror and confusion. She didn’t know where she was. She didn’t know who she was.
But she knew one thing.
Something had happened.
Something that has changed everything — forever.
