Last Moments...

The sun came out like every morning, lighting up the neighborhood, the birds were singing, the sweet sound of summer vacation.

I got up, stretching, then excitedly picked up my younger twin gently, we cleaned up, ate breakfast and ran. When we were about to reach the door, father stopped us, since the disappearances began they didn't want to let us go out to play like we used to. Gathering in the street, we would play until lunchtime, and in the afternoon, we would go out again.

Of course it seemed strange to us when the kids in our neighborhood started to disappear... First Dean, then the sisters Jane and Jill, and several more... The children kept disappearing, and there weren't as many of us anymore. Although Sam and I also felt... Affected. Anyways.Still we wanted to go out to play, maybe our childish minds and innocence didn't let us fully interpret the danger that there could be, and what was happening.

We had already spent a few days playing inside, and today our parents went to the Smith's to have dinner like every Saturday. Me and Sam never went, it was boring, the Smiths didn't have kids, and there wasn't much to do there, so even though our parents were worried about what was happening in the neighborhood, they let us stay home again.

After a few minutes of them leaving, Sam and I looked at each other, a knowing smile formed on our mouths. We got up, leaving the toys aside and headed to the back door quickly and with fun. We used the hole we had created between the bushes in the yard to get out when we were punished, and we reached the street.

I smiled at Sam, he looked a little nervous, but he smiled back. He was always a more scared and worried child than me, more sensitive, kinder, but we made a good team. I shook his hand. And with plans and enough curiosity in our heads, we headed to the house next door, Mr. Crawhber's house.

When we reached the door, a feeling of fear washed over me, but I swallowed hard and cautiously made our way to the hallway next to the house, which led to the backyard. I smiled amusedly at Sam as we arrived. The thought of getting to know the new neighbor's house was a relief. The dry grass and pieces of trash crunched lightly under our feet. I took a breath, and reached for the handle of the back door of the large house.

I froze, my eyes widened in surprise, and a fear that warned me of danger filled me when the door swung open, revealing Mr. Crawhber. Perhaps what scared me most was the distorted, inhuman smile on his wrinkled face, his black eyes looking dull as they stared at us. I didn't even feel the knock, my vision went dark.

I don't know how much time passed, but when I woke up, the cold, hard floor beneath me gave me a chill. My vision focused with the seconds, still feeling somewhat dizzy, a gasp left my throat when I glimpsed the scene in front of me.

The room, dark, had traces of blood, the putrid smell reached me, I could see some bodies of children, of my friends, lying around, torn and emaciated, with missing parts, holes, some had no eyes.

The worst thing was seeing my little brother in that chair, tied up, I could see some wounds on him. That black creature, as if it were part of the darkness, had its black and sharp hands on him, feeling his face with a macabre, grotesque smile, I could feel my brother's terror, his face reflected pure fear, I moved, trying to get to him while I screamed furiously and in fear of the creature, it was then that I realized that some chains on my ankles tied me, preventing me from moving forward.

I kept trying to intervene, to stop this, but the creature ignored me completely, focusing on what was in front of it, its prey.

Its mouth opened revealing the largest teeth I had ever seen, beginning to devour my little brother's small body, tearing the flesh.

The torture start, it began to tear off Sam's limbs, first his arm, devouring it with fun while looking into his eyes. Then they continued to tear off a part of his stomach, revealing his insides... I don't know how long it lasted.

Hours passed, warm tears running down my face, as I felt repulsion and fear. Curled up, sitting in a fetal position looking at the cold ground.

A lump in my throat, and my trembling body, was what I tried to focus on. While Sam's screams reached my ears even though I covered them with my hands.

When the screams ceased, and the pool of blood reached in front of my feet, I knew it would be my turn now. Guilt for bring my brother here, fear of all, and disgust flooded through me. I looked up, my eyes clouded with tears, and I wasn't even surprised when the creature began to creak and change back to a normal height, a human body, that of Mr. Crawhber...

He doesn't was mentally ill hoarder...He was a monster.
