Prologue
It has been years since I last used my abilities to mess with someone’s life. I miss it. That is why I am roaming around a human realm, searching for the person someone to toy with.
I have just sent a woman who lost her daughter into a reality where she is still alive. I am yet to bring her back to her own world as she seems so happy there, but I will soon, and she will think it was all just a dream. But after some good deeds, I deserve to have some fun, right?
As I pass from house to house, street to street, I suddenly spot a thought of a mortal that intrigues me. On the house on my left, I see a girl seated on the roof watching the stars in the black sky. While just looking at her, I know she is 18 years old whose name is Katarina Monroe. She is a brunette with green eyes, about 168 centimeters tall.
I can also see that her heart belongs to a boy. Her thoughts about him are what attracts my attention.
Just then, I see a boy climbing up to the roof while looking at her. He is very tall, 188 centimeters to be exact. He is 19 years old. He has long black hair and gray eyes. His name I see it to be Sebastian Lockwood.
Sebastian climbed up to the roof, looking for Katarina. He finds where she is sitting and makes his way over, sitting down next to her. He leaned back a bit, enjoying the cool night air on his skin before speaking, “There you are... What are you doing all the way up here?”
Katarina already knows it’s him from his smell and scent, so she doesn’t have to turn around in order to tell. “I was just thinking…” she sighs, her gaze fixed on the sky above them.
I watch them and I can tell she is the boy she has given her heart to, and she is the girl his heart belongs to. They have loved each other for a while. And they seem to want to keep it like that.
“Thinking about what?” he asks, turning his head to look at her. He can sense that something is weighing on her mind, but isn’t sure what it is.
Turning to look at him, as well, Katarina whispers, her voice laced with uncertainty. “Can I ask you something?”
Sebastian nods his head, and gives her a small smile. “Of course. You can ask me anything.”
Katarina takes a deep breath before asking, her eyes looking deep into his, “Would you recognize me and love me in a different world, time and reality?”
And there is it, the thought in her pretty little head that made me stop on my way and find a poor hopeless mortal. Her thought is giving me an idea that is making me grin. But first, I let them talk it out. It might give me more.
Sebastian pauses for a moment, surprised by that question. He takes a few seconds to think her answer over. “You are asking if I can recognize you... In a different world, different time, and a different reality? Are you implying a different world and time in which I would never have met you before in this lifetime?”
Katarina nods. “Yes. Before this, or a world that is considered a fantasy in this.”
He pauses for a few more seconds, thinking about that question seriously. The idea itself is a bit strange… “That is a difficult question to answer... The idea of a different world and different time in which I would never have met you…”
He doesn’t say anything for a moment, and his face looks a bit solemn. He then softly speaks again, “But, I would like to believe that I could still recognize you. And I would still love you, no matter the world or the time.”
That answer makes Katarina smile. He said just what she wanted to hear. But, of course, she has to dig deeper, “What if it was medieval times?”
That question is more specific... Yet he still pauses to think about it. If it was medieval times… “If it was medieval times…” he repeats what she said as he goes deep into thought. I see everything he is imagining and that just makes me want to turn it into reality. “Would I still recognize you, still love you, in medieval times...?” he paused for a long moment before answering me slowly. “I would like to believe I could... I would like to believe that I could recognize your soul, recognize you, no matter what time or what world it is. I would still love you, whether it is in this lifetime, or a different one.”
I can almost feel how much joy fills Katarina’s heart. The boy she is with seems to know exactly how to make her feel secure. She almost jumps for joy. “Really? What if you were a king and I was just a servant who wouldn’t even be allowed in your chambers?”
He chuckles at that, trying to imagine it... He tries to visualize the scenario Katarina just gave… and I, I want to create it. “If I were a king, and you were just a servant... and you wouldn’t be allowed into my chambers... I’d still want you there with me.” His expression remains solemn, but there is sincerity in his tone. “I don’t care if you would just be a simple servant. I would still want you to be with me. No matter your station, I would still love you and want you by my side.” He says that with such sincerity in his voice, and his expression is still serious but his eyes soften slightly.
Narrowing her eyes, she teases, “Even if we were in a time where you were a noble and I was a peasant girl accused of witchcraft?”
He pauses again, trying to imagine the scenario… “Even if I was a noble and you were a peasant girl accused of witchcraft, I would still want you to be with me. I still would want to protect you. I'd still recognize you, still recognize your soul, and I would still love you. No matter the circumstances, and no matter the world or time, I would still...love you.”
Not yet done, Katarina continues, “What if you were a knight and I was the noblewoman, forbidden to ever love someone who isn’t of royalty?”
Well, that wouldn’t be so bad would it? But that would make it that one of them, if not both, would not make it out of that love affair alive.
“If I was a knight and you were a noblewoman, and it was forbidden for you to love someone who isn’t of royalty…”
He speaks slowly, his expression still solemn. “I would still love you, regardless... I’d still want to be with you, even if it’s forbidden.”
Do they even know what they are promising?
“What if we were in the land of dragons and magic?”
“The land of dragons and magic…” he repeats it softly, and he pauses for a moment as he considers the question. “If we were in the land of dragons and magic, I still would love you. No matter what world, what time, or what circumstances we were in... I would always love you”
“Mmmh... What if it was during the funk time?”
He can’t help but let out a small chuckle when she mentions the ‘funk time’ and he lets out a soft smile. “During the funk time? You mean the 1970s? You want me to imagine us at that time?”
Katarina nods. “Would you love me for my big hair and weird jeans?”
Once again, he can’t help but to laugh.
“Hmm, now I'm imagining you wearing a perm and bell-bottoms…”
Katarina giggles at Sebastian’s deep laugh. “Would you still find me in that era?”
Sebastian gives a soft smile as she giggles, “Of course I would still find you. I would always find you, no matter what time, what world, or what circumstance. In any other life, I would still find you.”
As she leans closer, Katarina asks with a hopeful voice, “What if we were in an apocalyptic time? The world was about to end.”
Sebastian hums at that question, his gaze as gentle as ever. “...apocalyptic time? A time where the world is about to end...?” He pauses, and he lets out a soft sigh, his expression growing solemn again. “If it was a time where the world was about to end, I would still want to be with you. I still would want to spend my final moments with you.”
I look at the couple as so many worlds I could put them in pops in my head. I have never messed with a couple before, but now I want to see if Sebastian and Katarina would recognize and fall in love with each other if I am to create a world for them where they do not know each other.
“I would choose you too, every time…” Katarina says and I hear Sebastian’s heart beat fast. He wants to respond, but first, I have to know something. That is why I send that thought into Katarina’s mind and she echoes it to Sebastian. “What if every time you choose me, our love leads us both to our deaths?”
Sebastian falls silent as he hears her question, and his expression becomes even more solemn now as the smile he just got drops. He takes a moment to respond, and he speaks softly. “Even if every time our love leads to our deaths, I’d still want you... I’d still want us.”
That takes me by surprise even though I heard his words before he said them. Her mouth dropping as her lips start curving up to a smile, Katarina asks in happiness and disbelief, “Are you serious?”
He nods, his expression solemn and serious. “Yes, I’m serious. I’d rather have us die together than never meet you at all.”
With excitement, Katarina leans over to kiss him. But before she does, she whispers, “If only there was a way to see if you truly would. And if I truly would, too.”
He sees her lean a bit closer, and is anticipating the kiss. But then, he hears her speak and his eyes widen a bit. “A...a way to see if we truly would?”
And that question just sealed it for them. Because I, too, want to know if Sebastian and Katarina’s love is strong enough to find each other in different realities.
Katarina just shrugs and kisses him. Sebastian relaxes almost immediately and returns the kiss. His eyes flutter closed as the kiss deepens, his hands coming up to grip he waist as he pulls her closer to him.
“I love you…” Katarina Monroe mumbles during the kiss.
Sebastian Lockwood softly responds between kisses, his hands gently grasping her waist, his touch tender. “I love you... so much…”
With that, I fly away to start creating the first world I will send them to.
