Chapitre 1: L’étincelle de la discorde

Il pleuvait des cordes ce matin-là, et comme à son habitude, Léa était en retard. Elle courait à travers le hall du lycée, trempée jusqu’aux os, son sac cognant contre sa hanche à chaque pas précipité. En tournant brusquement au coin du couloir, elle percuta de plein fouet quelque chose – ou plutôt quelqu’un – qui la fit trébucher en arrière.


« Tu pourrais faire attention ! » grogna une voix grave.


Léa leva les yeux, croisant pour la première fois le regard froid d’Adam. Grand, sec, les sourcils froncés, il avait ce genre de regard qui vous jugeait en un instant.


« Excuse-moi, mais tu bloquais le passage ! » rétorqua-t-elle, en se relevant avec dignité, malgré l'humiliation brûlante.

« Peut-être que si tu savais marcher sans foncer dans les gens comme un boulet… »

C’était le début d’un échange tendu, ponctué de regards noirs et de remarques cinglantes. Tout en lui l'agaçait : son air supérieur, sa voix sèche, son calme provocant. De son côté, Adam ne comprenait pas comment une fille pouvait parler autant pour si peu, ni comment son rire pouvait autant l’irriter en si peu de temps.

Les jours suivants, ils se croisaient souvent, comme si le destin prenait un malin plaisir à les mettre sur le même chemin. Chaque interaction était un nouveau duel : elle lui reprochait son arrogance, il se moquait de son impulsivité.

Les autres élèves observaient cette tension grandissante avec amusement. Certains disaient qu’ils finiraient ensemble, d’autres pariaient qu’un jour, l’un des deux finirait par craquer pour de bon – au sens littéral.

Mais pour Léa et Adam, c'était clair : ils se détestaient. Une détestation vive, brûlante, qui s’exprimait dans chaque regard échangé, chaque mot prononcé. Rien, absolument rien, ne laissait penser qu’un jour les choses changeraient.
