Chapter 1
When James came back, he reeked of alcohol.
He brushed past me and collapsed directly onto the sofa.
Usually, I would get up, bring him some sobering soup, untie his tie, take off his coat, and then urge him to take a shower.
But this time, I didn’t do any of that. I just pursed my lips and sat on the sofa, watching him.
Maybe because it had been a while, James glanced at me. After two seconds, he impatiently closed his eyes.
“Olivia,” he massaged his forehead.
“Tessa had been wanting to eat at this restaurant since her study abroad. I had promised her long ago to take her here. You don’t need to make a fuss over this.”
He always thought I was making a scene, never considering how much his actions had hurt me, or how I felt.
And I wasn’t making a scene.
I just... decided to get a divorce.
Yesterday was our fourth wedding anniversary.
As in previous years, I had booked the restaurant, set up the venue, and invited friends.
But at the last minute, he told me Tessa had returned to the country, and he wanted to use the restaurant I had set up to throw her a welcome-back party.
Tessa was James’s first love.
The year we got married, she went abroad to study.
James always thought I had driven her away, so over the years, he had been cold to me.
Our marriage existed in name only.
After a long silence, I told James I wasn’t willing to give up.
Tessa’s return made me a bit uneasy.
As soon as she appeared, James would be attracted to her and leave me behind, just like he did back then.
James didn’t expect me to refuse. He thought I was jealous of Tessa.
“Which year can’t we celebrate the anniversary? Do you have to compete with Tessa this once?
“Tessa studied abroad for four years, and this is her favorite restaurant. Olivia, no one is going to threaten your position, but you can’t be too greedy.”
I still refused, and could only stare at James in silence.
He lost his patience, sneered, and grabbed my chin.
“Am I asking you?”
It wasn’t asking; it was a notification.
So my opinion didn’t matter.
Tears slid down my cheeks, and James impatiently shook me off.
Without a word of comfort, he turned and left the door, not returning until two in the morning.
At nine eighteen in the evening, Tessa posted a nine-grid picture.
“Long time no see, thanks to James for throwing this welcome-back party for me. I really liked it~”
That was my favorite restaurant.
It was also the venue I had set up with my own hands.
The person accompanying her was the man I loved the most.
They were all lively, talking about how much they had missed each other.
And I, sitting alone on the sofa, couldn’t wait for James to come home.
I had been living like this for four years.
Suddenly, I felt so exhausted.
James became more and more impatient. He kicked the coffee table aside with his foot and strode upstairs.
“James.”
I called out to him.
“Let’s get a divorce.”
He froze, turned around, and looked at me in disbelief.
“Are you sure?”
After two seconds, he frowned and spoke.
“Olivia, if this really hurts you that much, I can apologize, but as Mrs. Olivia, you’re being a bit too petty...”
He suddenly stopped.
Because he saw me take off my wedding ring and place it on the coffee table.
Then I looked up at him firmly.
“Sure.”
