Summary

She was raised to kill the man who destroyed her family. He was born to find the woman who could destroy the world. Enemies by blood. Bound by fate. Amalia Grey was only nine when her life was carved apart during a thunderstorm. A masked intruder left her face scarred, her brother dead five years later, and her mother—once warm and full of fire—trapped in silence and shadows. But silence wasn’t surrender. For years, her mother trained her in secret, shaping her into a weapon built for one purpose: to kill The Ferryman. On Amalia’s twenty-second birthday, her mother died—leaving behind one final message: “He’s still out there.” Now alone, Amalia is one of the most lethal assassins alive, and her sights are locked on the myth who shattered her world. Damon Virelos, known in whispers as The Ferryman, is more than a ghost. More than a killer. He’s the reincarnation of an ancient god—one bound to death, silence, and a throne buried beneath centuries of blood. When a string of ritualistic murders begins sweeping across the U.S., each echoing the divine symbols only he remembers, Damon realizes someone is framing him—and triggering the darkness inside him to wake. To stop it, he needs answers. To get answers, he needs her. When their paths collide, vengeance sparks—but something far older begins to burn beneath it. The deeper they descend into the mystery, the more tangled their histories become. And the closer Amalia gets to the truth, the harder it becomes to deny the one thing she never expected: he’s not the monster she was trained to kill. But if she’s not careful, she may be the goddess meant to end him. Because love was never part of the prophecy. Redemption always demands blood.

Prologue

Son of a bitch. That's all I heard as another storm hit, the rain and hail pelting the window as I glared at my reflection. A jagged scar laughed at me, the line starting at the tip of my right eyebrow, crossing over my nose and ending just above my left nostril.

My greasy red hair hung in dull curls, my blue eyes glaring back at me. I sneered and my reflection followed. The once beautiful day was now ruined as the cries of stray animals reached a horrifying crescendo.

"Amalia!" A harsh voice woke me from my musings. I turned, my leathers creaking as I moved. The woman before me was nearly my twin, her chestnut hair and green eyes the only difference. The lack of a scar also helped distinguish us more.

"What are you doing?"

"Watching the rain, commander." This woman, who I once called 'mommy' stared at me with disgust.

"The Ferryman has returned." Commander Grey sneered as she turned away from me. I froze, the scar on my face throbbing at the sound of the name. The Ferryman. Myth, legend...

Killer.

"When? I demanded. My mother halted, her face hidden behind the mess of her hair. "That's not the question you should be asking, Amalia." I swallowed, my heart hammering in my chest.

"Who?" I demanded, stepping closer, fists curled at my side trying to hide the trembling in my limbs.

"Connor." Was all she said as she slammed my door shut. My eyes filled with tears as her footsteps receded down the hall.

The Ferryman will pay.
