Chapter 1
He guessed things could be worse, though things could be better; like never having to work, not living in sunny California, and being rich were things that could be better. He lived in a trailer rent-free, had access to a nice gaming computer and had married the hottest girl -in his opinion - in high school.
So, he guessed things could be worse. But working in a law office, day in and day out, sharing the same space as someone like Joe Dabney - the only lawyer anyone knew capable of toddler-like meltdowns about Hispanic people existing - wore on him a bit. In his opinion, Joe deserved to be slowly dipped in sulfuric acid.
James Oliver Colyer worked for Aaron Earleywine of Aaron E. Earleywine & Associates, Aaron Earleywine was his step-father, and his prior paralegal, Mary Faulkner, had been James’s mother. Mary had had an aneurysm, in front of Aaron no less who had treated her like a goddess upon the earth, heaven sent to him, first class.
James had glommed onto his father’s last name Colyer, James didn’t fit in with his family, even his wife kept her last name. His eyes flashed to the corner of the computer screen, five-ten. Fifty more minutes and he could leave for the day. He wanted nothing more than to be a stay at home son.
Grab dinner, go home, with a crisp one hundred dollar bill in his pocket. Aaron didn’t pay James as much as the work was worth and anytime James grew a set large enough to challenge Aaron’s authority about that, Aaron would remind him where he lived, and that his bills were taken care of and to shut up and get back to work.
James wouldn’t continue to challenge him, Aaron had a point. Though, it would anger his wife. They weren’t allowed to run the air conditioning even when the summers brought triple-digit degree weather.
Couldn’t run the heater when the winters brought with it temperatures nearing snow. The ceiling was dipping down with rainwater. The trailer had black mode. The ceiling leaked. The sinks - both kitchen and bathroom - didn’t work. There was no oven or stove, only a microwave. And the cherry on top, the trailer was unpermitted.
Aaron had incurred the wrath of the county where he lived, and had to prove to the county that no one lived in the trailer, and came up with a brilliant idea (sarcasm)! Fill the trailer up with garbage bags - filled with trash of course. Tape black tarps over the windows so no one can peek in. He’ll tell the county it’s a storage unit.
And who’d fill up a storage unit with trash? And who’d live in a storage unit filled with trash, rotting and leaking away, puffing mould spores and fumes into the air, causing the two of them to grow sick and itchy. If Aaron was going to make them live like this, he could pay a living wage so the two of them could move out, and if he didn’t pay a living wage, get the damn place permitted and fixed! But James didn’t wish to stir the pot too often with Aaron, often telling his wife “That’s just how Aaron is.” His wife was becoming tired of that excuse, but if she held out just for when Aaron passed things might get better.
His eyes flashed to the corner of his computer screen once more, six o’five! He quickly patted his pockets and checked his mental checklist: keys, and wallet - for he did not believe in the technological leash that was a cellphone. He stopped by Aaron’s office and knocked with a fist on the wooden doorframe, which made Aaron Earleywine look up at his son.
He looked at the clock behind him. “You heading out?” Asked Aaron. He opened his wallet and gave James a one-hundred-dollar bill. “What are you and the wifey poo getting for dinner?”
Small talk. James drank up those moments when his step-father was curious about the mundane of his life. James jammed his hands into the pockets of his ill-fitted brown leather vest he had grabbed from a store in a mining town along Route 66 on his honeymoon with the wifey poo - as Aaron called her.
“She’s out with her mom…again.” He said that with a venom in his voice, a poison Aaron rarely heard in his step-son’s voice. “So, she’ll probably be bringing me home dinner.”
Aaron’s phone rang, and that always took priority in Aaron’s world, James waved goodbye to him and headed out of the office, down the two flights of stairs and across the side street to his white Toyota mini-van. He hoped his wife would be home when he arrived home, maybe the two of them could grab a bite to eat and watch a movie.
That was if her best friend wasn’t online, he slammed his huge meaty mitts against the steering wheel, the very thought of that Canuck Fuck made his blood boil. He knew - though, couldn’t prove it - they were having an affair behind his back. It was an idea so distant that it seemed hazy, out of focus.
But the idea of having her leave, while yes, it set off a panic deep within him, he couldn’t lie to himself that a soft, warm feeling swept over him. But he knew it was just paranoia that made him stew and fret. He loved her. And she loved him.
His wife had spent her summers in Vancouver, British Columbia and got a lady boner for anything drenched in maple syrup or gravy. Her best friend was someone she met online over a mutual love of horror movies, and he lived in Vancouver, British Columbia.
They had an unbreakable and unshakeable bond with one another. He didn’t know much about the guy, and James preferred it that way, but what he did know was his name (Erin) and that he was much older than her.
His wife was just a few years over thirty and he was in his early fifties. Those kinds of friendships never lasted, and when this one would crash and burn, he’d have to pick up the pieces of his wife.
Men his age only wanted one thing from a younger woman - if he considered thirties a younger woman, James certainly didn’t - and that was sex. And his wife was a happily married woman who had the best cock in the world to ride on.
Though, rarely did she have sex with him or even give him the consolation prize of a blow job - never mind the fact she had been whored out by her father, molested by the man, and raped - she needed to stop punishing James for all the bad that had happened to her and just let herself love sex like every woman in the world, especially since she had such an amazing lover in him.
He was tender, and always made sure she came. He was so good in bed, he once fucked her into a seizure, and once she blacked out, she became an amazing lay! No memories of her father’s cock or her rapist’s stubby peen. He bet he was at least a ruler’s length bigger than that Canuck Fuck, so why even show him an nth of attention?
He started his van and pulled away from the office, thinking of possible movies for the two of them to watch, that was if that Canuck Fuck hadn’t put a different title in her mind.
