Prologue
Xin understood, intellectually, that it was nothing personal.
His heart, though, hurt. He stared down at the twin union rings on the table, a gift that he had been looking forward to presenting to Orran.
Good thing that he hadn’t started on the engravings yet. With a soft sigh, he closed the lid. Bangles like these were not complete until they got their final engravings.
He turned his gaze back to the orders, then slowly picked up a pen and signed his acceptance on the dotted line.
