Chapter 1

When Eva Rinaldi, a rising interior designer in Milan, takes on a high-profile loft renovation, she expects a challenge — just not in the form of Luca Moretti, the gruff demolition expert assigned to the project.

Eva lives by palettes and balance, Luca by noise and rubble. They clash instantly: she calls him careless, he calls her cold. But as walls fall — both literal and emotional — something unexpected begins to build between them.

One late evening, amid dust and amber sunset spilling through bare windows, Luca gently runs his fingers along a line Eva drew on the wall.

“Funny,” he murmurs. “You see the future. I see the past.”

“And yet,” she whispers, “we meet in the mess.”
