1. The beginning of the end

"You're fired Miss Anderson" her eyes widened at the words. She had lost her job. The job she had just acquired three days ago. Like who could beat that record.

Only because she couldn't make simple coffee had sent her employment out of the window. She couldn't even cry. Her old self would be doing just that by now

"Please sir forgive me. I could make another coffee sir just don't fire me please" she pleaded. She didn't want to lose this job because she knew what would happen if she did. Her body started trembling as beads of sweat started forming on her forehead. She reached for the cup. The silence was crushing. Then—shatter. Coffee sprayed like blood across the floor. Her heart jumped as the cup crashed, it's pieces spreading like hellfire on the polished wooden floor. But Angelo just stood there, hands in his pockets, cold as ever. He lazily went back to sit and stared back at her before turning on his laptop. Her hands grew damp as she looked up at him—for the first time.

"Mm lets me make things clear. In this house, there's nothing like a second chance Miss Livia Anderson. Now get going I'm not changing my mind" he said flatly and Livia watched as he went back typing on his laptop not giving a damn about his surroundings.

Livia just weakly slumped down onto the cold brown wooden polished floor as she felt her knees giving up on her. She quietly sat down not moving nor blinking as she looked at nothing in particular.

Angelo who had been typing nothing in particular just sat there and when his surroundings went quiet he thought she was gone. He looked up from his laptop and found a quiet unmoving mass on the floor. He was quite surprised. But he hated it. He was greatly annoyed.

"Miss, shouldn't you be out of my house now. Or you forgot your way out of my house already.... you can't get up?. Should I call my guards? It's a million-dollar favor, but I’m feeling quite generous today—unless you’ve gone mute. What do you say" he said coldly as he pushed his laptop forward. His eyes dimmed as the girl neither moved nor talked but just sat there lazily.

Did she want to die?. His eyes narrowed slightly looking at the girl. He passed his hand on his forehead cleaning the imagery sweat and closed his eyes. He had grown tired of this girl. He opened his eyes again and looked at her again. He blinked hard when he saw tears streaming down he cheeks.

Ok,she's dead.

Livia didn't know why but suddenly felt her face getting wet. She had promised herself she wouldn’t cry. But the tears betrayed her anyway. Was it because she guessed what would happen to her family now that she lost her job. She didn’t cry when her father died. She didn’t cry when they lost the house. But now, in front of this man, her tears fell. And she hated them for it.

She shook herself to clear her thoughts. She looked back at the man in front of her and had a bitter smile on her lips. There was nothing she could do now. She stood up, wiped up her tears with the back of her hand that felt sore due to coffee splashing on it . She turned before she realized that there was a guard right behind her. There were only two people in the room....so when did this guard come in?. She blinked and looked back at the man at the desk and her eyes widened when she saw him smiling crazily at her.

Of course it had to be him. He couldn't wait to get rid of her..she knew. He then shook his head at the guard and suddenly the guard stepped in front of her with his arm facing the door gesturing her to leave. She hesitated but slowly walked to the door and the guard followed behind. When she got to the door she looked back at the man as the door closed.

She cleaned the tears that threatened to blur her vision again and walked away. She wasn't going to cry..not in front of this man. What was there to do anyway— nothing...well except finding a new job. She had an ailing mother to think about. One who needed her salary for medical expenses. She choked back on a sob as she got downstairs where she retrieved her bag before going through the big double doors, a long driveway through the main gates. Yes a massive mansion!.

She felt saddened how some people had lots of money without even trying much while others had to crawl for it and still get little to none. She wondered if she'll get her salary—

"For working for 3 days!!" Her brain screamed at her . Fuck'n yes. Too bad she didn't ask before leaving.

She calmed herself and made sure she looked good before entering her apartment . Her mother, Marilyn sat on the couch focused on something or ignoring her.

"Mom I'm ho-..."

" I can see that" Marilyn cut her off. Livia sighed. She never really had a good relationship with Marilyn after her father died.

"Shouldn't you be in a hospital, mother" Livia said dropping her bag on the couch beside her mother before downing a can of soda

"I'm not staying in any bed that your money has paid for.... Besides it's useless, I'm going to die anyway" her mother said matter-of-factly without casting as much as a glance in her direction.

"Ma'....

"Before you start preaching at me that I'm going to get better and live a longer life

..." Marilyn continued but didn't finish it as the can of soda was thrown across the small place

"You're going to live...and that's why you need to be in a hospital. You don't need to worry about the bills" Livia said half-yelling as if she wanted to believe that herself. No she can't lose her mother too.

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel

Bloodlines

lblomme: I always love a story where good overcomes evil. The sad start, the growth, and ultimate strength of the main character was well done. The story never lagged and ultimately delivered a happy ending even for characters who were less than stellar. Well done!

Silver's Second Chance

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
