New York, the city where everything can happen, be it an unforgettable love story, a
grand life journey or the realization of a longtime dream. As I see it, however, it's not the city
that makes all of this happen, but the crazy people that live in it!
My name is Naomi Lane and New York is the city where I was born and raised. Ever
since birth, my parents taught me and my brother how to survive in this concrete jungle,
unfortunately, they couldn't stay with us long enough to witness how we’d deal with it, for when
I was eight they both died in an accident. Ever since that day our uncle has been taking care of us
in their stead.
Today, I am already nineteen and I live alone in a small apartment in the middle of New
York, whilst leading a double life. During night time, I work in a nightclub as an average hostess
to keep up appearances, however, after the sun rises, I turn to my real money making job, I turn
into a hacker. Now I know hacking is often seen as something bad and a violation of people's
privacy but I only do it to help those in need…most of the time. Overall, I help people with
harmless things, for example, this one time a girl asked me to expose her ex on the internet with
embarrassing pictures or the time when a college student wanted me to alter his grades, that was
a surprisingly easy one, guess schools aren't hack-proof after all. Nonetheless, my biggest
accomplishment yet was when I managed to get into the national bank and “borrow” a couple
thousand of dollars, no big deal. Of course I only did this once, as I wouldn't want people to get
suspicious and make a commotion, though one of these days I might as well take the risk. At this
point you are probably wondering how I got myself clients without drawing too much
attention…And my answer is simple, I hacked social media! I chose a few people, who were
dissatisfied with their lives and sent them a little push. The rest was easy, they contacted me,
requested whatever they wished for and I fulfilled their desires. In return, they spread the word
about me to their acquaintances and they to theirs. Although this life seems like something you
should keep a secret, I actually told some of my friends about this, well…I guess you could say I
told all my friends, as I only have two of them. Angelique and Adriana are my most trusted
people. They have been my friends for a long time now, so at this point, we’re almost like sisters
from different mothers. Angelique is the kind of person who will butter you up before telling you
what's on her mind, but no matter the circumstances, she will always be honest and help you with
anything you might need. Adriana is her complete opposite. She isn't going to waste even a
second to scream at your face when you're acting like an idiot, though truth be told, even when
she does that, not even once has she denied me a helping hand. These two have kept my secret
from day one and, despite being extremely wary of the consequences my job may cause in the
future, they always show support and remain understanding.
Right now, I am getting myself ready to leave for work. My shift starts at eleven in the
afternoon and ends at seven in the morning. It is not that difficult of a job, I only have to make
company to those drunks and if I behave well, they usually tip me pretty damn good. Now I
won't deny that sometimes they like to get a bit “handsy”, but when that happens, security takes
care of everything. This nightclub is called “The Blue Rose” and it's one of the most well-known
in the whole city, as a result we have a lot of customers everyday and, of course, I get paid pretty
well. If you ask me, the money is worth all the trouble.
-Shoot! I'm gonna be late
There we go again, I get a little bit distracted and time seems to fly by. Well, I shouldn’t
waste it any longer, I have to get going! The best part of this job is that my place is pretty close
to it, about a fifteen minute walk, so I should be able to get there on time.
On my way to the club, I noticed a fancy black car driving in the same direction as me.
Judging by its appearance, it probably belongs to one of tonight's customers.
-I wonder if it's another one of those snobby rich old guys
Those are the worst of the worst! They think they're all powerful and classy, yet they still
hire prostitutes to get themselves some sort of entertainment. What a bunch of posers they all are.
Just as promised, after fifteen minutes, I got to the club and guess what! That same black
car was parked right in front of the establishment. I swear, sometimes I think I should be a
fortune teller!
Much to my surprise, Xander Campbell, the owner of the club, was outside, as if waiting
for someone. Since I had managed to arrive on time, I thought I'd ask him what he was doing
there:
-Hey boss!
He turned around and answered:
-Oh Naomi, the girl I was waiting for!
This couldn't be good. Xander usually never talks to the staff. So for him to take the extra
step of personally waiting for me at the entrance, I must've certainly done something terrible.
-You were waiting for me?! Did I do something wrong?
-No at all, I have a special job for you today
Seriously? He was willing to wait for me here just to give me a “special job”?! This already is making me nervous and he hasn’t even spoken of this job yet.
-Oh I see, yes of course, what can I do for you?
-Let’s get inside first
He led me to his office and proceeded to explain:
-So, tonight we have a special guest, he just came back from Switzerland and has
requested that our best hostess attended to him
-And I assume you want me to do it right?
-Precisely!
-Well that's nothing more than my usual job, so obviously I will do it
His request seemed way too weird, perhaps this customer was someone he wanted to
impress and if that was the case, he picked the right person for the job, after all, I am the best
here!
-Perfect…The gentleman will be awaiting you in table number five…You should go get
ready now
-Understood! I will do my best
I left his office and headed to the dressing room. All the other girls were already
prepared, so I rushed and headed to the table I was told about.
