"Mahira’s manuscript is a heartfelt and engaging middle-grade/young adult sports drama that follows her transformation from a reluctant tennis player to a passionate ice hockey star. Her relatable struggle to defy family expectations, forge friendships, and chase her rink dreams captivates readers, with vivid game scenes like her clutch Galleria goals and warm moments, like the sleepover with friends, shining brightly. The underdog battle to save Coach Sherry’s job adds compelling stakes, and Mahira’s growth feels authentic and inspiring. However, repetitive training scenes and dense hockey jargon occasionally bog down the pace, potentially alienating non-sports readers. Secondary characters like Niki and Kiley lack distinct depth, and subplots like the secret admirer fizzle out without full payoff. Mahira’s move to Galleria also feels abrupt, needing more emotional grounding. Streamlining technical details, sharpening key teammates, and deepening Mahira’s inner conflicts would elevate the story’s grip."

My thoughts!

" I love the sincere tone in the author’s writing. I would recommend this book to mothers with teenage daughters who are passionate about a sport they want to participate in. There is no plot in this story, just sincere exchange in feelings between the parents and their child, and the main character and her friends. With the help of a professional writer this story could become a fast and easy read for mothers with teenage children still in school."

"Liked the parents concern and the child growing up with their own mind set, that's very natural.... good description of ice hockey .... we should respect the child's independent thought. It's good story to read, encouragement for others "
