Summary

My Grandfather lived to be 94, and in his last couple years his health started to decline. He was a writer, philosopher, poet and atheist. So I wrote this to express my love and admiration for him at his living funeral, where he went through the Canadian M.A.I.D. procedure. These where my last words to him.

In Case You Don't Live Forever (For My Grandfather)

In case you don't live forever, I just wanted you to know.

The wisdom that you shared with me has helped me learn to grow

In case you don’t live forever, there are some words I need to say:

Even when you're gone from here, your love won't drift away.

In case you don’t live forever, I’ll remember all we shared

The quiet talks, the lessons learned, the way you always cared.

In case you don’t live forever, and you pass long before me.

I will carry on your lineage, like a seed falling from a tree.

In case you don’t live forever, I want to tell you one last time,

You’ll always be a part of me, your voice in every line.

And when I speak your stories, or walk the paths you knew,

I’ll feel you in the silence, in the wind, the sky, and dew.

In case you don’t live forever, just know you’ll always be

A part of who I’m becoming, always guiding me.
