Prologue
The storm raged like the gods themselves were mourning. Thunder cracked open the sky, and rain fell in angry sheets over the dark forest.
Amidst the chaos, a little boy-barefoot, blood-streaked, and trembling-ran desperately through the storm. In his arms, he held a small girl.
Her head bleeding, her white frock was soaked with blood and mud. Her breath came in shallow gasps. But she didn't cry. She never did. Even as pain carved itself into her body, her eyes-deep, haunting, too old for her age-searched his face with quiet trust.
Clutching her tightly, he ran through the howling wind and flashing lightning, as if trying to outrun fate itself.
Finally, he stumbled near an old, ancient tree and fell to his knees. Cradling the girl gently in his lap, he pulled her close to his chest and broke down into quiet sobs.
"I'm sorry..."
His voice was heavy, trembling, filled with helplessness.
"I couldn't stop them....I couldn't protect you..."
The girl's small, blood-stained hand slowly rose to touch his cheek.
Her eyes, though filled with pain, held a strange peace.
With a soft, loving whisper, she spoke only one word.
"S..." and he close his eyes.
(My lord)
A crack of lightning lit the sky-and for a brief second, the world stood still.
The boy turned his face upward, toward the heavens. Rain blurred his vision, but not the fire in his eyes. He placed his bloodied palm over his chest, over the frantic beat of his heart.
"I swear on Mahadev..." his voice was hoarse, but the power behind it was ancient, unnatural. "I'll find you. In this life...... I'll protect you. Even if I have to destroy the world for it."
Above him, the wind stopped. The rain paused midair. And in the silent stillness of the storm, a trishul appeared-etched in lightning across the sky.
A vow was made.
A fate was sealed.
And the gods watched silently... as love, once lost, began it's return.
