Chapter 1

The girl was missing. That part was clear. She was a young girl, barely starting in life. Her mother called the cops when she disappeared, saying that she was playing in the garden one minute and vanished the next.

It was a sunny day in the summer of 2008 when the girl disappeared. Her name was Zanna Miller and she was – years old. One of two children to her newly divorced parents. Tanned skin, curly brown hair. The photo of the young girl was in the news, the small town that she lived in became famous overnight.

The girl, Zanna Miller, came from a normal family, older brother three years her senior, loving mother and father. They seemed to have been divorced shortly after her half-sister was born (who seemed to be 18 months (about 1 and a half years) when her sister vanished without a trace.

The cops looked everywhere in the small town for the girl as many strangers had never even seen the girl or knew that she existed until her face came up on the news sent to the family how sorry they were for the loss. The mother could not help but feel a little annoyed. They didn’t know her daughter. To them, she was just a piece of news, something that showed them just how cruel humanity can be. Not a real little girl at all.

The family refused to do interviews saying that they are spending too much time trying to get a juicy story or one that would distract the people from what was really going on. They gave up after that, but people were still looking for the girl.

“I’m scared, I don’t know where my baby is. If she is alive or dead, hurt, it’s like a living nightmare.” said her mother one day to her new boyfriend, the girl’s half-sister’s father, in the sanctuary of the house, the place where the girl disappeared.

The girl’s brother could do nothing but watch as his mother was tearing up. He really hoped that his sister would reappear safe and sound, just like in the storybooks.

“Mama,” he said, one day when his mother put him to bed, “I miss Zanna, do you think that she is going to be okay?”

His mother then sighed as she then looked out of the window but said nothing. She then left the room, but the boy could hear his mother crying from the door. He wished he could do something to help her... but he was just a kid, and what had happened was horrible.

He remembered his little full sister, a smile of joy as she followed her big brother everywhere. She seemed to prefer her brother, her half-sister and even her stepfather over her own parents. Especially loved her older brother, Charlie. He looked just like the male version of her.

Everyone hoped that one day, the little girl would be found.

They hoped...
