When Eyes Meet

A usual groggy morning as I stirred awake from my deep slumber. My hands instinctively reach to my alarm to switch it off realizing – yeah, I had overslept today too. I dragged my tired body to the washroom, it was yet going to be another tiring day filled with college work and part - time jobs and late-night manga work. Yes, lately I have been indulged in drawing manga characters and posting them online and my page suddenly blew up and now, I have millions of followers on that platform but I haven’t forgotten my desire to open a company – my own manga company. I was indulged in dreaming of designing a new manga character but they broke apart when my mom’s voice echoed from the kitchen. “Yahh, are still asleep Amy, you’re going to be late again” she voiced out.

I looked at the time and hurried into the shower as I finally relaxed under the warm water letting it soothe my skin and the sore muscles. I found my body relaxing under its warmth, the tiredness wearing off my body as it refreshed itself again. Then I quickly wore some comfy pants and sweat shirt and put my hair in a messy bun as I rushed out with my bag and grabbed my daily source of energy – a slice of bread. Since, a young age I have been skipping my breakfast to eat this bread and share the sense of nostalgia it provides. My mom was about to hold me back and force- feed me my breakfast but I escaped by planting a soft peck on her cheek as I ran my way out of the house and shouted out “I’ll be back late don’t wait for me” and proceeded to look at her figure again for the last time before I headed for the bus, praying that it perhaps didn’t leave yet. I ran my way through the small and narrow paths, trying to take as many shortcuts as I could to reach just in the nick of time. I looked at the bus stand ahead and pushed myself to run a little bit more and finally reach my destination as I let out a loud tired pant. The stand was as usual jam packed with people of different kind – office workers, high school students and college people. I rummaged through my bag as I found my pair of wired headphones. Yes, I still use wired headphones but how can I leave an item that has been through my high school life and seen so many stages of me and been a part of it silently. Avoiding the gaze of the people surrounding me I silently put my headphones on as, I played my favourite songs. The whole bus ride was filled with silence except my headphones filled the void. My body was grooving to the beats of the music as I relaxed in my seat and closed my eyes so that I felt a true connection to with the music and my lips unintentionally curved into a smile. Just then I opened my eyes to find to find a pair of dark brown already staring at my way.

POV OF KAI

The morning light shone through my light shade curtains contrasting to my dark coloured room. My groggy eyelids blinked away the tiredness from last night as I slowly remembered the events from last night -- that bastard and traitor, Ryn whose blood I bore on my shirt. I slowly got up to find myself covered in blood, my shirt which had soaked up more of it already from last night. My phoned buzzed with a notification, from my secretary “Meeting starts in 15 mins”. I cursed under my breath. “Great start to a day” I thought as I swiftly entered the shower and stripped off to enter the warm water engulfing me and comforting my muscles. I changed into a crisp white shirt and black trousers and grabbed a bread for my breakfast. That word was quite rare for me as I barely ate something through out the day and returned at dawn. I sat in my lambo as my chauffeur continued to drive me to my destination, my office – my second home where I spend most of my time. The usual traffic lead to me cursing again but as I looked to my right, time froze a girl who was hardly a few years younger to me was smiling as she grooved to the beat, It felt like it was only us in the moment. Her hair was in a perfect messy bun and her smiling was addicting in a way that I felt myself drowning in it.

Then she opened her dazzling eyes

And looked right into mine

I should have looked away and pretended to never see her -- like how a child looks at his or her favourite toy at a shop. Her eyes fluttered with innocence, look of pure curiosity etched her face but she looked so damn pretty still… I felt my masks wearing away as I looked at her in awe but masked it up before she could see. Just then, the bus moved causing my car to move and her figure fading away. “Shit!” I barked a little to loudly causing my panicked chauffeur to push the brakes immediately.

PARIS IN THE DARK

Hester: Very good, was short too the point , not lingering on the abuse, pity you didn’t let him step in earlier knowing the abuse was happening, but this is almost real for some women who have gone through it, just wish they could all have a princess at te end of thete tunnel
