Soulburn: Ashes of the Cursed CHAPTER 1: THE FIRE THAT REMAINS

The wind howled across the charred ruins of Tsuyano village, carrying with it the scent of ash and old blood. Smoldering cinders danced in the air like dying fireflies. Beneath the ruins of a once-vibrant land, a girl knelt alone — her hands trembling, her breath shallow, her eyes burning with visions not her own.

Her name was Mira.

But in another life, a life lost to fire and divine wrath, she had a different name.

Ashara.

The Flame Goddess of the First Sky. Slayer of soulfiends. Guardian of the Sacred Ember.

And now, she had been reborn — in a world that had forgotten her flame.

Mira clutched her pendant tightly, the crimson stone within pulsing like a heartbeat. The village she grew up in was gone, devoured by something not of this world. Not bandits. Not war. Soulfiends. Creatures twisted by the corruption of unburned souls — horrors Mira had only seen in dreams.

Until now.

She stumbled to her feet. Her once-plain eyes now shimmered with orange and gold, flickering like candlelight in a storm. Her breath steamed, despite the heat.

“Why… Why did they come here?” she whispered.

“Because you’re awakening,” a voice said behind her.

Mira spun, fists clenched.

Standing in the broken arch of the shrine was a boy cloaked in black, a glowing brand pulsing on his chest. His hair was white as bone, and his left eye — entirely red — burned with restrained fury.

“I’m Kaen,” he said, walking forward. “And you’re more than just a survivor. You’re a key.”

“Key to what?”

“To stopping the Ashen Eclipse.”

The pendant in Mira’s hand flared. Visions surged through her — of war, fire raining from the skies, and gods bleeding across battlefields. Her knees buckled, but Kaen caught her.

“Don’t fight it,” he said. “You’re remembering. That’s good.”

⛩️ In the Hall of Remnants

Kaen led Mira through an ancient path deep beneath the village, into a hidden sanctum called The Hall of Remnants. It was lit only by flame-torches that never died, bound by sacred blood. Carvings on the walls showed gods and monsters, all consumed by flame. At the center stood a fractured sword — glowing faintly, humming with old power.

Mira approached it, hand trembling. The blade pulled at her soul like it remembered her.

“This sword…” she breathed. “It has my name written in flame…”

Kaen nodded.

“It’s called Solstice Fang. It was yours — when you were Ashara.”

Mira touched the sword. Flames burst from her palm, but they didn’t burn her. Instead, they wrapped around her arm like an old friend returning home.

“I don’t understand this… Any of this…”

“You don’t have to — not yet. But you need to awaken fully. The Soulfiends are gathering. Their master… he knows you live.”

“Who is their master?”

Kaen’s eyes darkened.

“The one who killed you before. The one who burned the Sky Palace and shattered the Seal of Light. His name is Draeven — the Hollow Flame King.”

🌌 The Cursed Flame Rises

As they stepped outside the sanctum, a rumble split the sky. Dark clouds swirled, and something monstrous descended from above — a Soulfiend Wyrm, covered in seething black smoke and screaming souls.

Kaen unsheathed his blade. “It’s here. Test your fire!”

But Mira didn’t back away. Her heart pounded. Her pendant blazed.

In that moment, the last seal broke.

Her eyes flared with godflame. Her voice echoed not just with fear, but power:

“I am not just Mira.

I am the last ember of Ashara…

AND I WILL BURN YOU CLEAN!”

She raised her hand — and fire erupted from the earth. A pillar of divine flame engulfed the Soulfiend, its shrieks shaking the valley.

When the smoke cleared, only ashes remained.

Kaen stared at her, astonished. “You… you summoned it without a chant…”

Mira dropped to one knee, panting. “It hurt… but it felt right.”

“Then you’re awakening faster than we feared,” Kaen muttered. “Which means… Draeven will move soon.”

Mira looked to the sky, fire flickering in her gaze.

“Then let him come.”
