INTRODUCTION

“Blinnngggggggg…”The celestial bell rang and here I am still sitting idly in the cloud four. My lazy bones would not dare go down and attend the awarding ceremony of the angels who were successful in their mission.

“I’m such a disappointment to my majesty!” I thought as I swung lazily my feet. The plan to rest and just sleep invisibly in that cloud, unbothered by the little drops of tears shed by some wailing angels who just like me failed in their mission set in my lazy head. “Aahhh! It is good to be here!” I thought as I lay down my back and folded my growing wings in the process.

The cloud’s atmosphere gave me a soothing relief from stress incurred by that disappointing failure. I shushed my racing thoughts and decided to just take a catnap before going back to my chamber.

After a couple of minutes, I dozed off…

“Angeliquuuueee!” a singing sweet melody rang in my head. I didn’t budge. The sound continued and it rang closer to where I am. It left me without a choice but to open my invisible third eye to peek who’s coming. “Oh My bones…. My majesty is here! What shall I do?” my angelic system turned wild. I panicked as I made a camouflage in among the droplets of tears.

A soft amused chuckle was all I heard nearest to me. I forgot that my majesty is all knowing and all seeing. He pricked the droplet and I burst open. “Trying to hide?” He said to me. “Oh no..my majesty! That droplet caught me and I can’t help it.” was my alibi. He chuckled. I smiled as the thought of him being all-knowing dawned upon my little head. “I’m sorry, my majesty!” was all I could reply.

“What made you stay among the wailing clouds?” He asked, feigning not to know me through.

I swayed my body. “I stayed to relax my troubled heart!” I replied. “What made you troubled, my little love?” he simply played along. “I failed again my majesty!” I said sadly pouting my mouth. He chuckled as he started gliding towards the merriment hall. I followed him. “You’re not disappointed at me, are you?” I asked and my little eyes popped out. “Why should I? I know you have done your best to give humans the best experience of love. But see, I have given them free will to choose their paths.” He simply said. “But my majesty, I wanted to make humans happy and stay in love. I disappointed myself for not being able to do so.” I replied admitting the cause of my trouble. He stopped and put his hands at my shoulders. “We are our own disappointments! You see a lot of trouble comes from our own self-expectations and the standards we have for ourselves. Oh.. come on…. You’re an angel of love! You should be loving more yourself.” He said. “But, I am just a newbie your majesty. I am not fully one of them.” I said in a disappointed tone of voice. He chortled and looked at the distant hall. “Newbie or fully grown? You’re all the same and equal. Don’t you ever think your lower in rank.” He said to comfort my disappointed heart. He pulled me close and I was able to recharge my dead bat heart with the energy that emanated from his body. I illumined from the light of his majesty and all I could feel was joy. “See, I have healed your heart.” He said to me and like any magic, I have forgotten all my disappointments and failures.

We reached the Merriment hall and his majesty disappeared from my side. My joyful eyes fanned around the happy faces which resembled mine and all I could feel is the warm embrace of love.

“Angelique come here!” A Senior angel beckoned me and I glided towards him. “Where have you been? We have searched every nook of this hall, went to your chamber but you were nowhere to be found.” He said to me. I tried to recall and all I could see in my recent activities was that I was with my majesty. “I have a stroll with the Majesty in the clouds.” I blurted out which no other questions followed. When it came to his Majesty, they know that everything linked to it was the truth. Our memory with the majesty cannot be wrong and everyone was sure about it.

“Join us then in our merriment. Today, we had ended another set of mission and a little later comes another commissioning. That’s why it is important that all of us are present.” He said to me. “Yes Seniority!” I said and gave my wing salute as I glided towards the banquet.

The banquet table was filled with lots of celestial food and they are all mouth-watering. I took a pinch of each and happily chewed them in my mouth. “Mmmmm…heavenly!” I joyfully thought as I enjoyed every bit of it.

“Wrannnggggggg.” The sound of Silencio Cimbales stopped my happy musings and made me to forcefully gulped down the food stuffed in my little mouth. In just a blink of an eye everyone was in their places and in one turn I followed them. Great Silence ensued. The merriment was replaced by a sheer holy and reverent silence.

A sound of trumpet signaled us that his majesty was coming. We all bowed down as he passed in front of us to occupy the celestial throne. He was splendid in his celestial robe and a crown of gold was in his glorious head. He was extremely luminous that with just one look , I could make a good mirror of my life and myself. Nevertheless, I couldn’t help but peeked at him and he caught my naughty eyes. My majesty winked and I felt I could turn into a water vapor in an instant.

With another sound of trumpet, He made it to the throne and it signaled us to take our seats. Excited faces were to be seen in the hall except my blank aura. What made me felt this; I had no recollection about. Just that, I felt that this is not going to be fun for me.

The seven Angelicum seniors, we called “Seniority” occupied the seven seats with the scroll in their hands. Each scroll contained the mission and the corresponding angels to take the mission will be drawn out from the mission bowl.

“Ohhh..the commissioning!” I scratched my head and murmured an incantation that my name wouldn’t be picked. First, I felt it ain’t fun and second I am too young to leave the celestial place.

“No, I’ll miss the food.” My will corrected.

The first seniority stood up and got a handful of names of which she had said it loud and clear. I was just too happy that my name was not included. The second, the third and so on…. until the last seniority stood up and read the mission.

“100 days to love!” He announced so loudly that it reverberated the hall. The angels of love giggled and their faces turned crimson red except mine. What made me unexcited?; it has been deleted from my memory. Slowly, his hand poked at the bowl and triumphantly got a handful of names. My incantation was unceasingly uttered with closed eyes. “Namick con includusion noem.”

“And the last angel to take the mission is …” He paused. For the privileged last one, it is a tradition that a drum was loudly pounded. “Angelique Amor!” He announced. I collapsed from my seat as soon as my name was called and I just wanted to turn into a water vapor. “Why me?” I thought. “Why not?” The seniority bantered. I was embarrassed as my thoughts were all visible among them as if they’re reading a subtitle on every unspoken thought. I was caught surprised.

“I take the mission.” I simply said smilingly to redeem myself from embarrassment. Everyone clapped and giggled as I sluggishly dragged myself to join the commissioning.

In a quick turn, we stood in one line to take the mission book from his majesty and to receive his blessing.

Two books were handed to me by my majesty that felt heavy in my small hands. He smiled while I bowed my head to receive his blessing. “My little angel, the power I bestowed on you is what you will need for your mission.” He said solemnly before blowing into my body. I was afloat in the air immediately, wrapped in the magnificence of power. Twirled ---I twirled and puff! With one burst of little cyrstals, I was transformed into one of the angels in mission equipped with what I need hanged loosely in my waist.

The pink magical powder of beauty that I can use to make someone irresistible. The enchanted oil of luxury that I can use to make someone desirable. The charmed perfume of proximity that I could use to connect the two hearts and lastly the potion of everlasting love. All the four weapons are at my disposal but not the potion of everlasting love. It was never used as it could hamper human freedom. “Why is it given to me then, in the first place?” The answer remained to me a mystery.

After the solemn rite, we were only given one day to make our mission plan and think of strategy. So, I went back to my chamber and laid the books in my table. The first book is called the mission book in which the life of the person entrusted to me be recorded automatically for 100 days. “100 days?” I mused as I tried to calculate it’s equivalent in the human world. The basic formula that popped out in my head is 1 DH=1WE. “More or less, I have less than two years (earth time) to do the mission.” was my conclusion.

The second book which I pulled from under the mission book felt heavy in my hand. In it, written the past experiences of my mission target. I flipped the pages so I would know where and how would I start.

“Oh, my bones!” I commented as I scanned the pages. “One broken soul!” I remarked as I saw how heartbreaking her experiences were. No wonder, the book felt heavy with her constant sighs and tears. At the end part of the book, an underlined italicized phrases were what I found which served as the reason to which this mission was given to me.

Steff’s painful cry reached his majesty’s attention: “Oh, good Lord! Where’s my happy ending? Why has life became for me so cruel to deprive me of happiness?”

In a minute, I closed the book and with my magic pen, I wrote in the white board hanging loosely in front of me.

“A Happy Ending for Steffany.”
