A conventional marriage proposal

The lovers were at the amusement park. They went up together on the Ferris wheel. The man, rather coated, seemed nervous. His skin tone was one or two shades paler than usual and a drop of sweat rolled along his left temple.

- Do you have vertigo, Vernon? asked his girlfriend.

- Mh? No no...

And yet, he continued to grind his fingers. The more the nacelle went up, the more he trembled. He had begun to smooth his mustache with a distracted hand.

- Vernon?

But he didn't answer.

- My darling?

Still no answer. Their nacelle reached the top of the Ferris wheel and stopped. Vernon came out of his living statue state and got up from his seat. He knelt in front of his girlfriend.

- Petunia... I know it's totally cliché, that I'm not the first nor will I be the last to pay the machinist to stop the ferris wheel when we reach the top, but that's how I decided to do it...

The eldest Evans brought his hands to his face. She had dreamed so much of this moment, of all possible scenarios.

- My dear Pet', I love you with all my heart and soul. I have never loved anyone so much before you. I dream of making my life with you. I know that, because of a redhead that I will not name, your life has been a real circus. That's why I promise you my unfailing support despite all the oddities and other problems that might fall on us. I want to be the one who overcomes them with you. I promise you to be the one who brings the money home. I swear to give you the stability and the normality that you missed so much. Do you want to marry me?

The woman threw herself to his neck. She kissed him passionnatly.

- Yes! Oh yes! I want to marry you!
